  • Patent number: 5916852
Abstract: The present invention generally pertains to a power transmission fluid composition comprising: (a) a major amount of lubricating oil; (b) an oil soluble phosphorus compound; (c) an ashless dispersant; and (d) an amine (i.e., alkyl primary amine) having the following Structure I:R--NH.sub.2wherein R is about a C.sub.8 to C.sub.30 alkyl. Optionally, the power transmission fluid composition may include an amine containing friction modifier.

    Assignee: Exxon Chemical Patents Inc.
Inventors: Roger Keith Nibert, Raymond F. Watts
  • Patent number: 5872082
Abstract: A method of increasing the static coefficient of friction of an oleaginous composition, such as an ATF, comprising adding to a major portion of an oil of lubricating viscosity a friction increasing amount of an oil soluble friction increasing reaction product comprising (a) an oil soluble substituted or unsubstituted, saturated or unsaturated, branched hydrocarbyl group containing from about 12 to about 50 total carbon atoms, (b) a linking group, and (c) a nitrogen-containing polar group, wherein the polar group contains at least one nitrogen atom and, optionally, contains at least one atom selected from the group consisting of boron, oxygen and sulfur atoms, and wherein the polar group is linked to the branched hydrocarbyl group through the linking group.

  • Patent number: 5840662
Abstract: The frictional durability of lubricating oils, including power transmitting fluids and in particular automatic transmission fluids, are improved by incorporating a combination of low potency friction modifiers, ashless and/or metal-containing antioxidants, and oil-soluble phosphorus-containing compounds.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 28, 1997
Date of Patent: November 24, 1998
    Assignee: Exxon Chemical Patents Inc.
Inventors: Roger Keith Nibert, Raymond Frederick Watts, Ricardo Alfredo Bloch
  • Patent number: 5750476
Abstract: The anti-shudder durability of power transmitting fluids, particularly automatic transmission fluids, is improved by incorporating a combination of low potency friction modifiers and phosphorus-containing compounds. The anti-shudder durability of these fluids may be further enhanced by inclusion of a metallic detergent and/or a polyol ester friction modifier.
