Patent number: 8135537Abstract: A route data base generating system avoids GPS satellite signals sources for land based vehicle azimuth and heading determinations in areas where reception of the satellite signals is unavailable or impaired and relies on vehicle part movements that are equatable to the heading and azimuth changes of the vehicle for determining such vehicle orientations. Part movements equatable to the heading changes are found in the vehicle wheel assemblies. A route data base founded on interconnecting linear route segments that are arranged in and end-to-end serial order is advocated and wherein the angular deviation between connecting segments in the order is predetermined. Various uses of the generating systems and related procedures are advocated for both on-the-road and off-road usage.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2009Date of Patent: March 13, 2012Inventors: Roger L. Martin, Thurman Sasser

Patent number: 5630068Abstract: A communication system for a marketing area locates a light signal generating system and a master computer at a control center and delivers message bearing light signals over optical channels to predetermined subdivisions of the marketing area. Message relay units are provided on the shopping carts in the marketing area for transmitting audio and/or visual messages to the shopper. Among the visual messages transmitted are those which visually display a list of items available for purchase and on display in the marketing area, a graphics display of the marketing area and the merchandise display facilities therein, a video picture which is often of a product or item available for purchase in the marketing area and a traveling word message.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1994Date of Patent: May 13, 1997Inventors: Leo Vela, Thurman Sasser, Roger L. Martin

Patent number: 5609001Abstract: Modular insulating upholstery for a closed chamber (7) consisting of panels (1, 2) and prefabricated elements, specially suited to chambers for the transport of goods such as containers. The panels and prefabricated elements form part of an assembly set or kit adaptable to the dimensions of the chamber interior (7) to be insulated and comprise all the necessary upholstering elements. The panels (1) covering the chamber peripheral walls and ceiling consist of a self-supporting sheer insulator in one piece. The prefabricated elements essentially comprise spacing units (6) in the form of small blocks, which are placed between the inner chamber surface and at least the outer panel surfaces, and are made of a material capable of breaking any thermal conduction between the two surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1994Date of Patent: March 11, 1997Assignee: Enthalpy S.A.Inventors: Jacques R. Pantaloni, Roger L. Martin

Patent number: 5605503Abstract: A processing line for the defeathering of birds including a scrub washer (27) positioned upstream from the scalder (28) and picking station (29) of the processing line for precleaning the birds prior to scalding and picking the feathers from the birds. The scrub washer (27) includes a series of flexible fingers (63), which engage the bodies of the birds and ruffle the feathers of the birds to wipe dirt, loose feathers and contaminating material from the bodies of the birds. At the same time the flexible fingers tend to bear against the birds so as to urge contaminating material contained within the visceral cavities of the birds out of the visceral cavities. Spray nozzles (53) apply a fluid spray (54) to the birds to wash any loose feathers, dirt and contaminating matter from the birds. Thereafter, the precleaned birds are passed through a scalder (28) and through a picking station (29) where the feathers are moved from the birds.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1995Date of Patent: February 25, 1997Assignee: Dapec, Inc.Inventor: Roger L. Patent number: 5485914Abstract: A composite article carrier for articles such as bottles, or cans with bodies having tapered upper portions. The carrier includes an outer member, with article receiving openings of one size, and an inner member with smaller article receiving openings and adjacent retaining tabs that project through the openings of the outer member for engagement with the under sides of article end closures, to secure the articles to the carrier.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1994Date of Patent: January 23, 1996Assignee: Jefferson Smurfit CorporationInventor: Roger L. Patent number: 5417640Abstract: An improved method of preventing cohesion between plastic coated, paperboard, folding carton blanks after they come off a die cutter or cutting section of a press. The method comprises providing different scoring patterns for the carton blanks of alternate rows as the cartons are formed, which results in the creation of air spaces between adjacent cartons to prevent them from sticking to each other.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1993Date of Patent: May 23, 1995Assignee: Jefferson Smurfit CorporationInventors: Roger L. Martin, Ronald A. Moore, Richard L. Humphries

Patent number: 5201828Abstract: An interlocking tray and cover arrangement especially suitable for packaging food products. The arrangement includes a paperboard, tray member having laterally outward extending projections at the upper ends of certain of its side walls which projections are adapted to be releasably received within a peripheral groove located at a lower portion of a molded plastic cover member.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1992Date of Patent: April 13, 1993Assignee: Container Corporation of AmericaInventor: Roger L. Patent number: 5052799Abstract: A reference signal used for orienting an object has a beam of electromagnetic radiation with a first signal component that is a rotating component and also a second signalcomponent which is periodically generated when the first signal component is in a predetermined direction. The beam may be a linearly polarized laser light beam with a rotating plane of polarization, an unpolarized laser light beam with a rotating and shaped image of predetermined configuration, or a linearly polarized microwave beam with a rotating plane of polarization. The second signal component may be generated as a component of the beam bearing the first signal component or separately generated and propagated. Provisions are made for receiving and comparing the direction indicated by the reference signal with the direction of the object to be oriented and the information derived from the comparison is analyzed and processed to provide an output signal that useful in orienting the object.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1989Date of Patent: October 1, 1991Inventors: Thurman Sasser, Roger L. Martin
