  • Patent number: 9169843
Abstract: A turbomachine that includes a housing and a circuit assembly. The housing includes an inlet for admitting a working airflow and a flange that extends from the inlet. The circuit assembly includes a circuit board and an electrical component having a heat sink. The circuit assembly is located within the housing such that the flange extends beyond the circuit board and the heat sink extends beyond the flange.

    Assignee: Dyson Technology Limited
Inventors: Andrew Charlton Clothier, Roger Michael Dawe
  • Patent number: 8561253
Abstract: A method of controlling an electric machine that includes exciting a winding of the electric machine in synchrony with zero-crossings of back emf when operating over a first speed range. The method then includes exciting the winding in advance of the zero-crossings by a fixed period of time when operating over a second speed range, and exciting the winding in advance of the zero-crossings by a period of time that varies with speed when operating over a third speed range. Additionally, a control system for an electric machine, and a product incorporating the control system and electric machine.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: October 22, 2013
    Assignee: Dyson Technology Limited
Inventors: Andrew Charlton Clothier, Tuncay Celik, Roger Michael Dawe

  • Patent number: 7191484
Abstract: A laundry appliance comprises a drum for receiving a load of articles. The drum comprises at least two rotatable drum portions and a drive which is capable of rotating the drum so as to cause relative rotation between the drum portions. A controller monitors and controls operation of the appliance. The controller is arranged to determine when there is an overload condition on the drive during a period when the drum portions are being rotated relatively to one another and, in the event of an overload condition, causes the drive to operate in a manner that alleviates the overload condition. The drive can abort the current drum action and begin the next drum action in the sequence and, after a predetermined number of overload conditions, can suspend counter-rotating drum operation. The user may be provided with an indication when an overload condition occurs.
