  • Publication number: 20040035818
Abstract: The invention provides a container closure (2) assembly comprising: a container neck (1) having side walls defining an opening at one end thereof and a lip (5) extending around the opening, wherein an inner surface (7) of the side walls proximate to said lip (5) is inwardly tapered; a closure (2) for said neck (1), the closure (2) having a base portion (3) and a skirt portion; a first screw thread on the neck (1); a second screw thread on an inner surface (7) of the skirt of the closure (2); said first and second screw threads being configure to enable a user to secure, remove and resecure the closure (2) into a sealing position on the neck (1) by rotation of the cap on the neck (1); a sealing plug (8) extending from said base portion (3) of the closure (2) inside and substantially concentric with said skirt portion of the closure (2), wherein the sealing plug (8) comprises a plurality of circumferential sealing ribs (9) on an outer surface of said sealing plug (8) for engagement with said inner surface (7) o

  • Patent number: 6227391
Abstract: A container closure assembly that includes a container neck having an opening and a closure for the container neck, wherein the closure has a base portion and a skirt portion. A first screw thread on one of the container neck and the closure, the first screw thread comprising one or more first thread segments and a second screw thread on the other of the container neck and the closure, the second screw thread having a plurality of second thread segments, each of the second thread segment including upper and lower thread surfaces. A seal that forms a seal between the container neck and closure when the closure is screwed down on the container neck. Mutually engageable elements on the container neck and closure to block or restrict rotation of the closure in an unscrewing direction beyond an intermediate position when the closure is under an axial pressure in a direction emerging from the container neck.

  • Patent number: 6015054
Abstract: The invention provides container closure assemblies, especially for carbonated beverage containers, having substantially helical second thread segment (20) with a profiled lower thread surface (24). The profiled lower thread surface (24) includes a first, lower region (28) with a low pitch and a second region (30) with a steep pitch. The thread (20) may also include a step feature (32) to block unscrewing of the closure at an intermediate position where gas venting can take place, and a third region (34) of the said lower surface having a low pitch adjacent to the step. The closures are easy to apply and remove, and do not blow off unpredictably or uncontrollably under pressure.

  • Patent number: 5819965
Abstract: A container closure assembly including a container neck having a first screw thread, a radially projecting bead located below the first screw thread, and one or more ratchet projections located below the radially projecting bead. The container closure further includes a closure having a skirt portion with a second screw thread complementary to the first screw thread for securing the closure on the container neck. A tamper evident ring is joined to the skirt portion by severable connections and includes a generally annular collar for the neck, an opening or recess formed in the collar, wherein a portion of an edge of the opening or recess is attached to a tab. The tab is inclined radially inwardly and obliquely relative to a central axis of the ring and flexes relative to the collar in a radially outward direction.

  • Patent number: 5788101
Abstract: The invention relates to a container neck (10) and closure (12), particularly useful for foil-sealed containers. The neck (10) and closure (12) include complementary threads (14, 16) or projections and complementary tapered surfaces (18, 20) which are adapted to form an interference fit and seal the closure (12) to the neck (10) at a region clear from the lip (30) of the neck (10) and the crown (120) of the closure (12). Any foil seal (28) present on the container neck (10) remains free from contact with the closure (12) during application and tightening. Preferably the neck (10) includes a recessed lip (30, 32) further to protect the seal and to inhibit drop formation. An outer edge of the container lip may be chamfered to provide a pull tab on the foil seal. Additionally, the foil may be of a larger diameter than the lip of the container, so that it provides an overhanging edge of foil to facilitate the removal of the foil, but not of such a large diameter that it touches the inner surface of the closure.

  • Patent number: 5769254
Abstract: A container neck (14) and a container closure comprises a first thread (15) on one of the neck and the closure, a complementary second thread on the other of the neck and the closure such that the closure is moveable from fully disengaged from the neck to fully closed by turning the closure relative to the neck by less than 360.degree., at least one stop formation (17,18) carried by said one of the neck (14) and the closure, and stop means on said other of the neck and the closure engageable with the stop formation or at least one of the stop formations to hold the closure in a closed position on the neck.

  • Patent number: 5676268
Abstract: A container neck and child-resistant closure for the neck are disclosed. The closure includes an inner part and an outer part, and castellations on the parts which mate when the outer part is displaced axially, to lock the parts together for rotation. A ratchet mechanism including ratchet ramps and cantilever leaf springs biases the inner and outer parts axially and rotationally apart, and allows relative rotation of the parts in one direction of rotation, when the castellations are not engaged. The angle through which outer part has to be turned to enable the castellations to be engaged may be less than 45.degree. and preferably less than 25.degree.. The closure may be moved between fully opened and closed positions by rotation through less than 360.degree. and preferably about 90.degree.. A tamper-evident ring, and a retaining means for retaining the closure in the closed position, may also be provided.

  • Patent number: 5667088
Abstract: A container closure assembly comprises a container neck, a closure for the neck and a tamper evident ring frangibly coupled to the closure and retained on the neck when the closure is removed from the neck, wherein the tamper-evident ring has a generally non-circular shape. Preferably, the tamper-evident ring is substantially polygonal, e.g. substantially square, with outwardly curved sides and arcuate corners. The tamper-evident ring is retained on the neck by hooks that abut against a shoulder on the container neck.
