  • Patent number: 9815027
Abstract: Disclosed herein are aspects and embodiments of an apparatus for providing gas slugs in a liquid. In one example, the apparatus comprises a housing defining a chamber, a bell tube including a wall and an open upper end disposed within the chamber, a riser tube including a wall, an open lower end, and a flared open upper end disposed within the bell tube, and a conduit defined between the wall of the bell tube and the wall of the riser tube and in fluid communication with an internal volume of the riser tube.

  • Publication number: 20120285885
Abstract: Aspects and embodiments of the present application are direction to systems and methods for treating fluids and to systems and methods for cleaning membrane modules used in the treatment of fluids. Disclosed herein is a membrane filtration system and a method of operating same. The membrane filtration system comprises a plurality of membrane modules positioned in a feed tank, at least one of the membrane modules having a gas slug generator positioned below a lower header thereof, the gas slug generator configured and arranged to deliver a gas slug along surfaces of membranes within the at least one of the membrane modules. The membrane filtration system may further comprise a global aeration system configured to operate independently from an aeration system providing a gas to the gas slug generator. The global aeration system may be configured and arranged to induce a global circulatory flow of fluid throughout the feed tank.

  • Patent number: 8287743
Abstract: A method of cleaning a membrane surface immersed in a liquid medium with a fluid flow, including the steps of providing a randomly generated intermittent or pulsed fluid flow along the membrane surface to dislodge fouling materials therefrom. A membrane module is also disclosed comprising a plurality of porous membranes (6) or set of membrane modules (5) and a device (11) for providing a generally randomly generated, pulsed fluid flow such that, in use, said fluid flow moves past the surfaces of said membranes (6) to dislodge fouling materials therefrom.

  • Publication number: 20070007214
Abstract: A membrane module (5) including a plurality of porous membranes (6) extending in an array and mounted, at least at one end, in a header (8). The header (8) has a number of distribution apertures (11) for distributing a fluid into the module (5) and along a surface or surfaces of the membranes (6). An elongate chamber (10) having one open end (13) and another end is in fluid communication with the distribution apertures (11) for distributing the fluid to the distribution apertures (11).

  • Publication number: 20030226797
Abstract: A method of reducing solids fouling between porous membranes in a membrane filtration system of the type having a plurality of membranes mounted, at least at one end, to a header and operable to withdraw permeate from multicomponent liquid substrate in which said porous membranes are immersed, the method including rendering a portion of one or more of the membranes, adjacent the header, inoperative.
