  • Patent number: 6732433
Abstract: Manufacturing an inkjet printhead and orifice plate by providing upstanding spaced apart barrier walls on the orifice plate to separate adjacent firing chambers on the printhead. A plurality of orifice plates are initially created in a one-layer array on a workpiece. An abrasive member is controlled to contact and truncate end edge portions of the barrier walls on the workpiece to create mutually coplanar surfaces for engagement with a substrate in order to help prevent cross-talk between adjacent firing chambers.

  • Patent number: 6670906
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining accurately a coordinate of a transmitting/receiving antenna pair relative to a predetermined reference position. The method includes placing a transmitting antenna in proximity to a reflective strip, transmitting a first signal from the transmitting antenna and detecting a reflection of the first signal received from the reflective strip at the receiving antenna located at a fixed distance from the transmitting antenna. The method further comprises determining a coordinate of the antennas relative to the reflective strip based on a parameter of the reflection. The method may further comprise detecting a second signal received by the receiving antenna from a conductive strip located proximate to the reflective strip, and determining a second coordinate of the antennas based at least on a time difference between transmitting the first signal from the transmitting antenna and receiving the second signal at the receiving antenna.

  • Publication number: 20030206217
Abstract: A printhead is used to eject printing fluid, such as ink, onto a printing medium. This printhead has an orifice plate defining plural orifices from which the printing fluid is individually ejected onto the printing medium to form characters and images. This orifice plate includes in addition to the plural orifices, plural barrier walls interdigitated with the orifices so that each orifice is between a pair of spaced apart barrier walls. The barrier walls substantially prevent the ejection of printing fluid from one selected orifice from causing an unwanted ejection of printing fluid from adjacent orifices.

  • Publication number: 20020010546
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for determining the propagation velocity of an electromagnetic signal in a subsurface medium which can then be utilized as a parameter in the calculations of various properties of a subsurface medium, including thickness, compaction and water content variation, and subsurface target depth. Propagation velocity is obtained by taking measurements in free space, resulting in air-launched waveforms, and at the medium surface, known as surface-coupled waveforms. The air-launched waveforms are subtracted from the surface-coupled waveforms resulting in a surface-coupled residual waveform. Comparison of the residual waveform amplitude to a calibrated amplitude scale obtained from measurements of media with known propagation velocities results in a velocity measurement comparable in regards to accuracy to a measurement obtained using the prior art.

  • Patent number: 6336928
Abstract: Device for joining at least two vertebral bodies, which comprises at least one plate (1) equipped at each end with anchoring parts (1a) (1b) which can be introduced substantially vertically into seats previously established in the vertebral bodies to be joined, and then, after introduction, can be folded back at an angle towards one another in order to exert a constant compression of the vertebral bodies and to ensure perfect anchoring, wherein each anchoring part (1a) and (1b) is connected to the ends of the corresponding plate via a central connection zone (1c) (1d) delimiting two profiled notches (1c1) (1d1) (1c2 (1d2) in order to permit deformation of the zone, in such a way that each pair of anchoring parts permits a compression, both at the level of the plate and at the level of its ends, and in such a way that the anchoring parts at each end of the plate permit a clamping which prevents any extraction.
