  • Publication number: 20060254130
Abstract: A method of improving the efficiency of a fuel is described which comprises adding to the fuel prior to the introduction of the fuel to a vehicle or other apparatus comprising an internal combustion engine cerium oxide and/or doped cerium oxide and, optionally, one or more fuel additives.
    Type: Application
    Filed: January 23, 2004
    Publication date: November 16, 2006
    Applicant: Oxonica Limited
    Inventor: Roger Scattergood
  • Patent number: 5789353
Abstract: An oil-soluble dispersant obtainable by reacting a polyalkenyl succinic acylating agent and N-(2-(4-morphinyl)ethyl)-1,2-ethane diamine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 21, 1997
Date of Patent: August 4, 1998
    Assignee: Ethyl Petroleum Additives Limited
    Inventor: Roger Scattergood
  • Patent number: 5587432
Abstract: Novel ashless dispersants that have reduced reactivity toward fluoroelastomers are described. They are oil-soluble products obtained by a process which comprises reacting (i) a long chain succinic acylating agent wherein the long chain is derived from a polyolefin with (ii) an alkoxylated diethylene triamine having an average of from 1 to 2 N-substituted C.sub.2 or C.sub.3 hydroxyalkyl groups per molecule. These reactants being employed in proportions of at least 2 moles of the acylating agent per mole of the alkoxylated diethylene triamine, with the proviso that where the average of N-substituted C.sub.2 or C.sub.3 hydroxyalkyl groups is 1.7 or more, the proportions are such that there are more than 2 moles of the acylating agent per mole of the alkoxylated diethylene triamine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 30, 1994
Date of Patent: December 24, 1996
    Assignee: Ethyl Petroleum Additives Limited
    Inventor: Roger Scattergood
  • Patent number: 5505868
Abstract: An oil soluble dispersant composition formed by reacting a basic nitrogen-containing ashless dispersant (i) with at least one dibasic acylating agent, (ii) with at least one phosphorus compound, and (iii) with at least one boron compound, said reactions (i), (ii) and (iii) being conducted concurrently or sequentially in any order such that the initial ashless dispersant is chemically modified via acylation in (i), by phosphorylation in (ii), and by boronation in (iii).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 6, 1992
Date of Patent: April 9, 1996
    Assignee: Ethyl Petroleum Additives Limited
Inventors: Helen T. Ryan, Roger Scattergood, Mark Rees
  • Patent number: 5210261
Abstract: Amine salts of phosphorothioic acids, useful for example in lubricant compositions, are made by forming a mixture of sulphur and an amine, and then adding a phosphite ester. The reaction is controlled by the rate of addition of the ester.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 8, 1992
Date of Patent: May 11, 1993
    Assignee: Ethyl Petroleum Additives, Ltd.
Inventors: Barrie D. James, Roger Scattergood

Abstract: A lubricant containing compounds of the general formula: ##STR1## where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are hydrogen or hydrocarbyl.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 5, 1976
Date of Patent: March 28, 1978
Assignee: Exxon Research & Engineering Co.
    Inventors: Brian Swinney, Roger Scattergood
