  • Patent number: 6245475
Abstract: A method of forming one or more polymer containing layers on a substrate using ink jet nozzles. The method is particularly suited to forming one or more polymer containing layers of a photoreceptor. The polymer containing layers may be formed by moving a substrate, in particular a cylindrical substrate, past the ink jet nozzles, by moving the ink jet nozzles over the substrate, or both. The ink jet nozzles are capable of being independently controlled in order to permit precise location of the coating on the substrate.

  • Patent number: 6187512
Abstract: Disclosed is a process which comprises reacting a polymer of the general formula wherein x is an integer of 0 or 1, A is one of several specified groups, such as B is one of several specified groups, such as or mixtures thereof, and n is an integer representing the number of repeating monomer units, with a halomethyl alkyl ether, an acetyl halide, and methanol in the presence of a halogen-containing Lewis acid catalyst, thereby forming a halomethylated polymer.

  • Patent number: 6020119
Abstract: Disclosed is a process which comprises reacting a polymer of the general formula ##STR1## or ##STR2## wherein x is an integer of 0 or 1, A is one of several specified groups, such as ##STR3## B is one of several specified groups, such as or mixtures thereof, and n is an integer representing the number of repeating monomer units, with a halomethylethyl ether, a hydrohalic acid, and acetic acid in the presence of a halogen-containing Lewis acid catalyst, thereby forming a halomethylated polymer.

  • Patent number: 5942360
Abstract: A photoreceptor includes a supporting substrate and an outer layer on the photoreceptor, the outer layer including silicone oil uniformly dispersed as vesicles in a continuous film forming polymer matrix. This photoreceptor is used in a xerographic copier/printer machine and contributes to a longer operating life of the machine by providing continuous lubrication, decreased friction and decreased wear of the interaction of the photoreceptor and other machine parts. This photoreceptor is prepared by incorporating silicone oil and at least one film forming polymer in at least one solvent, removing the solvent and forming a dried outer layer in which the silicone oil is phase separated from the other components of the top layer forming small vesicles which are uniformly dispersed in the continuous film forming polymer matrix.

  • Patent number: 5693372
Abstract: A process for dip coating drums comprising providing a drum having an outer surface to be coated, an upper end and a lower end, providing at least one coating vessel having a bottom, an open top and a cylindrically shaped vertical interior wall having a diameter greater than the diameter of the drum, flowing liquid coating material from the bottom of the vessel to the top of the vessel, immersing the drum in the flowing liquid coating material while maintaining the axis of the drum in a vertical orientation, maintaining the outer surface of the drum in a concentric relationship with the vertical interior wall of the cylindrical coating vessel while the drum is immersed in the coating material, the outer surface of the drum being radially spaced from the vertical interior wall of the cylindrical coating vessel, maintaining laminar flow motion of the coating material as it passes between the outer surface of the drum and the vertical interior wall of the vessel, maintaining the radial spacing between the outer

  • Patent number: 5681391
Abstract: Apparatus for dip coating comprising a drum having an outer surface to be coated, an upper end and a lower end, at least one coating vessel having a bottom, an open top and a cylindrically shaped vertical interior wall having a diameter greater than the diameter of the drum, an inlet at the bottom of the vessel, the inlet adapted to feed flowing coating fluid into the vessel, a mandrel adapted to maintain the outer surface of the drum in a concentric relationship with the vertical interior wall of the cylindrical coating vessel while the drum is immersed in the flowing coating material, the outer surface of the drum being radially spaced from the vertical interior wall of the cylindrical coating vessel, and at least one flow regulating member adapted to maintain laminar flow motion of the coating material as the fluid passes between the outer surface of the drum and the vertical inner wall of the vessel.
