Abstract: A system and method for capturing and information about a process instance in a business system is provided. A unique process instance identifier may be assigned to each business object created, used, or modified during execution of the process instance. The identifier may then be used to monitor or analyze the process instance during execution or at a later time. The system and method may include steps and procedures to allow for cases where the process instance identifier is not propagated from a single predecessor object to a single successor object and other extraordinary situations.
