    Abstract: A non-bypassable catalyst assisted appliance includes, for example, a housing having a combustion chamber, a loading door, an air inlet opening, and an exit opening connectable to a flue. A platform defines a non-movable separation in the housing between the combustion chamber and the exit opening. An insulated catalyst combustor is disposed between a top wall of the housing and the platform. When the door of the appliance is closed, gas from the combustion chamber is exhausted and directed along a single flow path horizontally through the insulated catalytic combustor and into the flue. When the door of the appliance is open, gas from the combustion chamber is inhibited from passing through the loading door opening, and ambient air entering the loading door opening and combustion gas from the combustion chamber are exhausted and directed along a single flow path horizontally through the insulated catalytic combustor and into the flue.

    Abstract: A method for operating a wood fired appliance, in one aspect, generally includes automatically moving a baffle to a lowered closed position from the raised open position in response to a top loading door being moved to a closed position to close the opening in a top wall. The baffle may also be automatically inhibited from being maintained in the raised opened position when the top loading door is disposed in the closed position. For example, a cam may be tripped or activated by lowering of the top loading door to cause the baffle to rotate about an axis and fall under the force of gravity to the lowered closed position, and the cam may inhibit the baffle from being raised when the top loading door is closed.

    Abstract: A gas burner assembly includes in one embodiment a top plate having at least one port for discharging fuel and a downwardly-depending, peripheral edge having a plurality of spaced-apart slots, and a bottom base having a peripheral edge disposed within the downwardly-depending peripheral edge of the top plate. A gasket is disposed between the base and the plate. A venturi tube is attached to the base with a tube holder. The plate is attachable to the base by displacing and/or expanding a portion of the downwardly-depending, peripheral edge adjacent the slots to form a plurality of spaced-apart, inwardly-extending tabs disposed under the peripheral edge of the base. Methods for assembling and gas fired appliances employing gas burner assemblies are also disclosed. Further, attachment means and methods for attaching a first member to a second member using such displaceable and/or expandable tabs are also disclosed.
