  • Patent number: 5839267
Abstract: This invention relates to a new land based gas turbine in simple or combined cycle configuration, which permits a user to incorporate air or steam cooling of hot gas turbine parts with minimal change in components, and which also incorporates design changes enabling certain turbine components to be used without change in both 50 and 60 Hz turbines. The invention here specifically relates to parameter selection for the operating cycles of 50 and 60 Hz gas turbines with air or steam cooling, and in simple or combined cycle configuration. A method of operating a combined cycle, gas turbine broadly comprises the steps of compressing inlet air with a multi-stage compressor with a pressure ratio of about 23 to 1; directing substantially all of the air discharged from the compressor to a combustion system to produce gaseous products of combustion; directing the gaseous products of combustion through the turbine; and exhausting the gaseous products of combustion.

  • Patent number: 5343694
Abstract: A gas turbine nozzle includes a plurality of nozzle segments having a pair of nozzle vanes supported by inner and outer shroud segments. Each inner shroud segment includes a circumferential retention slot and a radial retention slot in generally circumferential alignment and an interlocking tab and slot arrangement at the respective ends to provide engagement between adjacent flange segments. A 360 degree retention ring includes a plurality of circumferential retention tabs and radial retention tabs to engage respective ones of the plurality of flange segments to secure the nozzle segments in a circumferential ring about the outlet of a gas turbine combustor.

  • Patent number: 4793770
Abstract: A fairing for mounting onto a gas turbine frame to isolate the frame from the hot gases passing the flowpath. The fairing includes mating forward and aft annular sections with each section having an outer wall and an inner wall defining the flowpath therebetween. A plurality of circumferentially-spaced hollow fairing struts radially extends between the inner and outer walls. The two sections are manufactured such that there are no misalignments or steps between the lineup of the two sections. The sections are placed over the frame struts and are coupled together.
