  • Patent number: 5036875
Abstract: A hydrocarbon monitoring valve which is operative to close whenever hydrocarbons are present in a fluid passing therethrough has a hollow hydrocarbon-sensitive canister mounted in a generally vertically disposed portion of a housing of the valve. The presence of hydrocarbons within fluid passing through the canister produces rapid deterioration of the canister, with the result that mechanical linkage coupled to the canister acts to close a valve element within a generally horizontally disposed portion of the valve adjacent an inlet, thereby shutting the valve from further flow of fluid therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4790446
Abstract: A drain system for the floating roof of an oil tank or similar tank couples a drain sump at the underside of a central portion of the floating roof to the outside of the tank wall at a lower portion thereof via a flexible arrangement of rigid pipe lengths joined together by swivel joints. Each swivel joint is made pivotable about an single axis by a pair of side frames having pairs of leg portions pivotally coupled to each other along the axis and mounting a length of flexible pipe therebetween. The opposite ends of the length of flexible pipe are coupled to an opposite pair of pipe couplings mounted on central portions of the side frames between the leg portions and adapted to be coupled to the lengths of rigid pipe. The length of flexible pipe which is comprised of a length of flexible hose disposed between inner and outer wire helices is coupled to the pipe couplings by arrangements which include swedges, swedge rings and collars.

  • Patent number: 4308968
Abstract: An arrangement for sealing the space between the outer rim of a floating roof and the inner wall of a tank includes a primary seal coupled to and extending between the inner wall of the tank and the rim and a secondary seal mounted on the rim of the roof and extending upwardly and outwardly and into contact with the inner wall of the tank above the primary seal. The primary seal comprises a flexible vapor barrier element. The secondary seal is made highly flexible and readily able to conform to the inner wall of the tank by use of a support structure in the form of a plurality of support plates mounted on the rim of the roof in side-by-side relation with overlapping but unjoined edges. The support plates support and force a pair of wipers mounted on top of the plates into contact with the inner wall of the tank.
