Abstract: A method and apparatus, using a responsive electronic hardware device and Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) with an Internet browser display simultaneously, both to control web navigation through hardware device action and to control hardware device action through web navigation. The method exploits the basic functionality of a hardware micro controller and the universal and bidirectional effectiveness of URLs through a data table connecting URLs with actions and actions with URLs and including timing conditions. Embodiments employ the invention's understandability and ease of construction in educational, diagnostic, and entertainment applications.

Abstract: The present invention identifies genes whose gene products are differentially expressed pressure overload of the heart. The invention provides methods for diagnosing or assessing an individual's susceptibility to heart failure from many etiologies, as well as the presence and severity of hypertrophy, chamber enlargement, or systolic heat failure. Also provided are therapeutic methods for treating a heart patient or methods for prophylactically treating an individual susceptible to heart failure. Additionally, the invention describes screening methods for identifying agents that can be administered to treat individuals that have suffered a heart attack or are at risk of heart failure.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention include a system for facilitating live auctions using electronic auction paddles to chronologically register bids. In one embodiment, an electronic auction-hosting device wirelessly communicates with a plurality of electronic auction paddles to register bids from bidders having the paddles. The host device may also include a display for providing a wide variety of information to the participants in the live auction, such as, for example, the paddle registering the currently high bid, the current bid, bid histories, information about the product or item being auctioned, and the like.

Abstract: An anti-eye strain apparatus and method which automatically adjusts the brightness of a display to cause the muscles of the eyes of the user to adjust and refocus such that eye fatigue or tiredness is reduced or eliminated. The brightness is varied within a particular range and the brightness within this range is occasionally or periodically adjusted. The changing brightness preferably follows a predetermined pattern or cycle. These brightness changes may be perceptible or imperceptible to the viewer. The brightness of the display may be adjusted mechanically, for example by a potentiometer, by a computer attached to a monitor, for example by an application or software, or by changing the palette of colors or the gray scale.
