  • Patent number: 7450349
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention avoid erasure of recorded data by concentrating stray fields on a magnetic head element. According to one embodiment, in a magnetic storage apparatus using a perpendicular recording medium with a soft magnetic under layer, a soft magnetic shield is provided so as to surround the upper parts and sides of magnetic head elements. A distance between the soft magnetic shield and the medium is shorter than that between the soft magnetic shield and the magnetic head element.

  • Publication number: 20080087315
Abstract: Disclosed is a thermoelectric fan for use with radiant heaters, particularly catalytic heaters. The thermoelectric fan of the present invention comprises a housing sub-assembly coupled to a thermal plate sub-assembly, the housing sub-assembly comprising a shrouded circulating air moving member, such as a fan blade, powered solely by the conversion of heat from a separate heater into electricity via an integrated thermoelectric module. Also disclosed is a self-powered fan that can safely perform in hazardous atmospheres while converting radiant heat to circulate air. The thermoelectric fan of the present invention ensures that the air within the space to be heated is more effectively distributed and temperature gradients are minimized. Also disclosed are methods for assembling, installing and safe operation of the thermoelectric fan.

  • Publication number: 20060245109
Abstract: A studded trailing shield design and method for manufacture thereof. The studded trailing shield design maintains critical spacing between the trailing shield and the write pole and also maintains critical spacing between the studded, trailing shield connecting structure, even in a head design having read and write elements that are not aligned with one another.

  • Publication number: 20060245108
Abstract: A magnetic head for use in a perpendicular recording system having a novel shield structure that provides exceptional magnetic shielding from extraneous magnetic fields such as from a write coil, shaping layer or return pole of the write head. The magnetic head includes a write pole, a return pole and a magnetic shield that is magnetically connected with the return pole near the ABS and extends toward the write pole. The shield is formed with a notch at its edge closest to the write pole. The notch assures adequate physical, magnetic, and electrical separation between the write pole and the shield, while allowing un-notched portions of the shield to provide additional magnetic shielding.

  • Publication number: 20050205496
Abstract: A process for treating liquid waste material, comprises first adding a chemical flocculent to the liquid waste material followed by mixing to promote flocculation. The floc material is subsequently separated to produce a bulk clarified liquid, with the floc material being subjected to a solids separation to extract further bulk clarified liquid. The collected bulk clarified liquid is then recycled back into at least one of the steps of adding a chemical flocculent and solids separation of the floc material. The process is suitable for use with a wide variety of liquid waste materials ranging from agricultural and human waste to industrial waste. An apparatus for treating liquid waste material is also provided.
