  • Publication number: 20240133858
Abstract: The present invention proposes a process for extracting and determining nitrogenous and acidic compounds in various types of petroleums, derivatives or thermal degradation products, and in process waters before the production/refining phase. When the methodology is applied to petroleum and byproducts, the process comprises the extraction steps (1); separation (2); pre-concentration (3); and analysis (4). When the methodology is applied to thermal degradation products, there is a need for a previous step to simulate the heating of petroleum containing different chemicals (if necessary) with the purpose of promoting thermal degradation of the species present and of the petroleum, and generating nitrogen compounds with simpler composition.

  • Patent number: 11753361
Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of laboratory-scale sample preparation, which describes a methodology for the specific isolation of tetraprotic naphthenic acids, called ARN acids, from residual naphthenate deposits from petroleum production. The method consists of cleaning the naphthenate deposit, converting the naphthenate salts to naphthenic acids and isolating the ARN acids from the other organic acids, using a silica-based sorbent material with aminopropyl functional groups, previously selected for an efficient elution of different functional groups and polarities.

  • Publication number: 20230182130
Abstract: The present invention refers to a system comprising microfluidic devices of extraction, capacitance analysis, together with the smartphone-controlled potentiostat, consisting of a portable system that can be applied on offshore platforms and offering an analytical procedure that requires low levels of samples and chemical ingredients. In addition, the assembly provides the in loco, fast analysis of species having fouling features with high analytical frequency. The ability to carry out these analyzes in low BSW oils represents a strong analytical improvement view of the technical difficulties observed in traditional methods that use liquid-liquid extraction.

  • Publication number: 20230170060
Abstract: The present invention refers to a portable analysis system that, from analytical methodologies set based on digital images acquired by portable devices and accessories developed in an expedited way, allows the performance of the analytical test without technical deepening by the executor of the analysis. Such methodologies allow the evaluation of chemical species relevant to the O&G sector, for following up compositional parameters in aqueous samples and analytical monitoring of production and effluent treatment. Thus, a quick implementation is possible considering eventual diagnoses associated with the parameters of interest and following up of different processes. The application can be in any laboratory present in an operational unit, whether offshore or onshore, as well as it can be used for direct measurement in the field, depending on the necessary environmental and operating conditions.

  • Publication number: 20230152294
Abstract: The present invention addresses to a method for analyzing and detecting solids in emulsions, oil and derivatives thereof even in the presence of high contents of water (>5% v/v), which is based on the absorption and scattering of light by solids suspended in solution. The application of the method of this invention contributes to greater reliability in terms of control of BSW (oil quality) and OGC (water to be treated and discarded). Additionally, there is the possibility of controlling the dosage of products such as scale inhibitors and naphthenates inhibitors, optimizing the dosage and minimizing operational occurrences associated with the formation of deposits. These eventually lead to equipment clogging throughout the process.

  • Publication number: 20230152295
Abstract: The present invention addresses to a method for characterizing water produced in oil samples containing water with contents below 0.5%, by measuring the analytes of interest directly in the oil containing the emulsified water. For this, it is necessary to carry out filtrations to remove possible suspended solids, since they may interfere with the composition of the water. The method proposed in the present invention provides methodologies with and without interference in the equilibrium by washing the oil with distilled water, measuring the analytes of interest directly in the oil.

  • Publication number: 20220177400
Abstract: Naphthenate deposition is formed from tetraprotic naphthenic acids having aliphatic chains and high molecular weight, provided with four carboxylic terminations, sometimes called ARN acids. Obtaining these species from their matrix of origin requires the prior use of sample preparation methods aiming at an efficient extraction of naphthenic acids. Obtaining ARN acids from naphthenate deposits is advantageous in the potential for reusing waste and reducing environmental damage. The process also adds value to waste materials from the oil production and exploration process. The present invention relates to the field of laboratory-scale sample preparation, which describes a methodology for the specific isolation of tetraprotic naphthenic acids, called ARN acids, from residual naphthenate deposits from petroleum production.
