  • Publication number: 20170115181
Abstract: A method for estimating pressures at a gas engine using a real-time model-based observer is implemented by a pressure estimation computing device. The method includes receiving a design schema describing an intake manifold and a plurality of components associated with the gas engine, segmenting the design schema into a plurality of segments defining a plurality of sections of the gas engine, defining a fluid dynamics model associated with each of the plurality of segments, defining a plurality of interconnected elements based on the plurality of fluid dynamics models, receiving at least one pressure measurement from at least one of a plurality of sensors associated with each of the sections of the gas engine, estimating a plurality of pressure values at each section of the gas engine, and controlling fuel injection to at least one gas cylinder based on the estimated plurality of pressure values.

  • Publication number: 20170082992
Abstract: An energy generation and storage system includes one or more energy generation assets, one or more energy storage assets, and a system controller. The system controller identifies a plurality of candidate responses to a grid service request. Each candidate response includes a split value that describes a power split between the energy generation assets and the energy storage assets. The system controller determines a plurality of response scores respectively for the plurality of candidate responses based at least in part on a plurality of asset life impact values that describe an impact that the plurality of candidate responses would have on an asset life of at least one of the one or more power generation assets and the one or more energy storage assets. The system controller selects one of the plurality of candidate responses based at least in part on the plurality of response scores.

  • Patent number: 9587552
Abstract: A method for detecting errors in a sensor at a gas cylinder is implemented by a pressure estimation computing device including a processor and a memory device coupled to the processor. The method includes receiving a first pressure measurement from a first sensor associated with a gas cylinder, receiving a design schema describing an intake manifold, the intake manifold included within the gas engine, segmenting the design schema into a plurality of segments, defining a fluid dynamics model associated with each of the plurality of segments, defining a plurality of interconnected 2-port elements based on the plurality of fluid dynamics models, estimating a second pressure measurement for the gas cylinder based on the plurality of interconnected 2-port elements, comparing the first pressure measurement to the second pressure measurement, and determining that the first sensor is in an anomalous state.

  • Publication number: 20170037845
Abstract: A controller for operating a rod pumping unit at a pump speed. The controller includes a processor configured to operate a pump piston of the rod pumping unit at a first speed. The processor is further configured to determine a pump fillage level for a pump stroke based on a position signal and a load signal. The processor is further configured to reduce the pump speed to a second speed based on the pump fillage level for the pump stroke.

  • Publication number: 20160053745
Abstract: A wind turbine includes a rotor, a plurality of rotor blades coupled to the rotor, and a blade pitch control system coupled to each rotor blade. A computer-implemented method for controlling the wind turbine includes determining at least one pitch position for a first blade. The method also includes determining whether there is a malfunction of the blade pitch control system associated with the first blade. The method further includes predicting a rotor imbalance using a model of at least a portion of the wind turbine. The method also includes comparing the predicted rotor imbalance with a predetermined threshold value. The method further includes one of regulating the pitch position for the second blade such that the predicted rotor imbalance is restored to a value below the predetermined threshold and regulating a pitch position for a second blade such that the predicted rotor imbalance does not exceed the predetermined threshold.

  • Publication number: 20140178195
Abstract: A method and system for shutting down a wind turbine is presented. The method includes determining one or more pitch positions for one or more rotor blades of the wind turbine such that a sum of potential energy and kinetic energy in the wind turbine is minimized. The method further includes pitching the one or more rotor blades from an operating position to the determined pitch positions.

  • Publication number: 20130259686
Abstract: A method includes obtaining at least one operational parameter value and at least one environmental parameter value associated with a wind turbine, predicting a future speed of the wind turbine based upon the at least one operational parameter value and the at least one environmental parameter value, determining whether the predicted future speed of the wind turbine exceeds a threshold speed, and if the predicted future speed of the wind turbine exceeds the threshold speed, controlling the wind turbine so that an actual future speed of the wind turbine does not exceed the threshold speed.
