Abstract: Disclosed herein are novel chloroacetanilide derivatives which act as remarkably effective herbicides when sprayed in a paddy field, the chloroacetanilide derivatives being 2',6'-diethyl-N-[(cis-alkenyloxy)methyl]-2-chloroacetanilides [A] represented by the general formula ##STR1## wherein R is a cis-form alkenyl group having 4 or 5 carbon atoms. Also disclosed are herbicide compositions for use in a paddy field and containing at least one of said chloroacetanilide derivatives [A] and at least one pyrazole derivative [B] represented by the general formula ##STR2## wherein R is a hydrogen atom or methyl group and X is a 4-toluenesulfonyl group or benzoylmethyl group; or-.alpha.

Abstract: Propionic acid derivatives represented by the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein X indicates an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, Y indicates a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different group, indicating an alkyl group, alkenyl group, alkynyl group, cycloalkyl group, lower alkoxy group, lower alkoxyalkyl group, phenyl group, respectively, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 may form a heterocyclic group together with a nitrogen atom bonding to said R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, and herbicidal compositions employing them.

Abstract: A herbicidal composition for paddy fields is provided by the present invention, which contains as active ingredients a mixture or a combination of N-chloroacetyl-N-(2,6-diethylphenyl)-glycineethylester and 2,4-bis(ethylamino)-6-methylthio-1,3,5-triazine. This composition exhibits synergistic herbicidal effect against various weeds grown in paddy fields, during the period of from the time of their germination up to the growing stage.
