  • Patent number: 6021644
Abstract: A reverse cycle refrigeration apparatus for air dehumidification is employed having an evaporator and a condenser and employing first and a second heat transfer coils for this purpose. Both coils are positioned in the air stream. In a first cycle the second coil functions as the evaporator for cooling and dehumidifying the air stream and accumulating frost and the first coil acts as the condenser, warming the cooled and dehumidified air stream and thawing frost having accumulated on it. In a second cycle the first coil acts as the evaporator, cooling and dehumidifying the air and providing the heat for defrost and the second coil acts as the condenser, thereby being defrosted. Dampers are provided for stopping air flow over the defrosting coil.

  • Patent number: 5826443
Abstract: For a supermarket having open refrigerated food display cases and adjacent cold isles and having primary refrigeration systems for refrigerating the cases, energy efficient ventilating means for removing the cold air from the isles and supplying replacement conditioned dehumidified air. The ventilating means includes heat pipes for utilizing the cooling effect of the cold leaving air removed from the isles to precool warm outside make-up air and a reversible refrigerating system for further cooling and dehumidifying the precooled outside air. Excess heat available from the primary market refrigerating system is employed to heat or reheat the dehumidified but now cold outdoor make-up air prior to its entry into the market.

  • Patent number: 5411078
Abstract: A fluid cooler having contiguous air cooled and evaporative portions and having a heat exchanger common to both portions. The heat exchanger employs a series of straight tubes which traverse both the air-cooled and the evaporative portions. Separate fans are provided for the air-cooled and for the evaporative portions. The segments of the straight tube laying within the air-cooled portion are finned. The segments of straight tubes laying within the evaporative portion are partially finned and extend further downwards as a sub-cooling section of the evaporative coil portion, thereby providing means for cooling the fluid to a temperature lower than ambient dry-bulb temperature.

  • Patent number: 4711094
Abstract: A reverse cycle heat reclaim coil in a refrigeration system having compressor, condenser and receiver means on the high side, including first valve means for selectively connecting the heat reclaim coil between the compressor discharge side and the condenser means to obtain heat reclamation during winter operations, and second valve means for selectively connecting the heat reclaim coil between the condenser and receiver means to obtain refrigerant subcooling during summer operations. The invention also includes the method of selectively connecting the heat reclaim coil in reverse cycle refrigerant flow in seasonal heat reclamation and subcooling modes.

  • Patent number: 4621505
Abstract: A flow-through surge receiver for a refrigeration system having compressor, condenser and evaporator means, in which a surge-type receiver forms a reservoir for liquid refrigerant and has a flow-through conduit receiving refrigerant from the condenser means and an outlet for passing such refrigerant directly to the evaporator means in by-pass relation with the receiver reservoir, and a passageway for establishing fluid communication between said conduit and reservoir below the normal liquid refrigerant level in the reservoir.
