  • Patent number: 4373262
Abstract: A method of making a hermaphroditic electric contact including steps of forming a tubular body with fingers having offset blade portions extending longitudinally from one end portion of the body, bending the blade portions to face radially inwardly of the body, cutting openings in the body to form medial wall portions, forcing the opposite ends of the tube together and allowing the wall portions to bend outwardly and form U-shaped locking shoulders, the locking shoulders being axially compressible during twisting fitment of the contact into a retention shoulder formed in a connector passage.

  • Patent number: 4278313
Abstract: An electrical contact (10) of the hermaphrodite type is disclosed for use in a mateable electrical connector. The contact (10) comprises a tubular body (12) having a mating end (16), a wire receiving end (14) and locking means (18) adapted to secure the contact in the connector. The mating end (16) includes plural contact fingers (30) with each contact finger having a radially extending blade (38) terminating in bevelled edges (40,42). The blades (38) are spaced so that the mating end of one such contact (10) may be axially inserted into the mating end of another such contact (10') with each blade of one contact being wedgingly engaged between the adjacent blades of the other contact. The locking means (18) comprises plural shoulders (44), each shoulder of which constituting a U-shaped leaf spring being formed in the wall (20) of the tubular body (12) and each being substantially compressible in the axial direction.

  • Patent number: 4080704
Abstract: A method of making a multi-V-grooved sheet metal pulley from a flat sheet metal strip. The strip is passed through forming rolls which preform a plurality of generally V-shaped, transversely spaced, longitudinally extending grooves in a portion of the strip, and a generally flat hub wall flange in a transversely adjacent second portion of the strip. The hub wall flange portion of the strip then is notched to preshape the flange prior to circular forming the bottom hub wall of a pulley therefrom. The preformed grooved and notched strip then is severed into individual strips, each of which provides the material for a cup-shaped sheet metal pulley. Each strip then is passed between a pair of wrapping rolls which form the strip into a circular, preferably cylindrical configuration with the strip ends located adjacent to each other. The adjacent ends of the strip then are abutted and welded together, forming a cup-shaped pulley.
