A controller controls the LC panel to display first and a second images forming a stereoscopic pair; controls the backlight unit to only illuminate the LC panel during a first time period after pixels of the LC panel have a stable optical state according to the first image, and during a second time period after the pixels have a stable optical state according to the second image; and generates a control signal for controlling a first shutter glass of a pair of 3D shutter glasses to be in a transmissive state for enabling viewing of the pixels of the LC panel only during the first time period, and a second shutter glass to be in a transmissive state for enabling viewing of the pixels of the LC panel only during the second time period.
