  • Publication number: 20090180238
Abstract: Double-layer energy storage devices and methods for manufacturing thereof are disclosed. Such devices and methods are useful for lessening self-discharge of the double-layer energy storage devices. An energy storage device and methods of manufacture that address the problem of capacitor self-discharge due to electrode misalignment, mismatch and/or unpaired electrodes is provided. The rate of self-discharge of a capacitor is increased when electrodes of electrode pairs are not well matched either by misalignment of the electrodes in one or more electrode pairs (e.g., along a longitudinal side or a terminal end of an electrode), or due to errors in the manufacture of electrodes where the electrodes of an electrode pair are not topographically matched (mismatch). In addition, self-discharge of a capacitor is increased if an unpaired electrode (an electrode without a counter-electrode) exists at the beginning, end or both of a roll or stack of capacitor units.

  • Publication number: 20070257045
Abstract: In one embodiment, a container with an overpressure safety device comprises a wall having a depression in at least a portion of the wall that expands when the pressure inside the container exceeds a predetermined level. The container further comprises a clamp bridging over the depression and restraining the angular expansion of the depression, while at the same time enabling the depression to expand radially. As a consequence, the outer dimensions of the container remain essentially constant when the pressure inside the container exceeds the predetermined level. The container may be tubular in shape and the depression may be shaped like a groove extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the container, while the clamp may be shaped like a bar affixed to the outer wall of the container in two or more points spaced angularly on opposite sides of the depression.

  • Patent number: 6525924
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for accumulation of electrical energy. The device is a substantially cylindrical winding of strips. At least one strip is a strip conductor. The device is defined transversally by a substantially cylindrical lateral face and longitudinally by two opposite end faces. Each of the two opposite end faces contains an edge of the strip conductor. In the device, at least one of the edges of at least one strip conductor contains a plurality of teeth. The teeth are disposed on at least one of the end faces and form at least one set in which they are substantially superimposed in a predetermined direction, approximately perpendicular to a plane tangent to the cylindrical face. The teeth constitute a group of elements of electrical connection to a terminal and in which each element extends itself in continuity with the strip conductor which comprises the element.

  • Publication number: 20020048140
Abstract: The invention relates to a device (1) for accumulation of electrical energy comprising a substantially cylindrical winding of strips (2, 4) at least one strip (2) of which being a strip conductor (2) of electricity, this device (1) being defined transversally by a substantially cylindrical lateral face (1A) and longitudinally by two opposite end faces (1B, 1C) which each contain an edge (2B, 2C) of the said strip conductor (2) of electricity, this device being characterized in that at least one of the edges (2B, 2C) of at least one strip conductor (2) of electricity contains a plurality of teeth (5) disposed in such a way that on at least one of the end faces (1B, 1C) of the device (1) they form at least one set in which they are substantially superimposed in a predetermined direction, approximately perpendicular to a plane tangent to the cylindrical face (1A) of the said device, in such a way as to constitute a group of elements of electrical connection to a terminal (6) and in which each element (5) extends

  • Patent number: 5235181
Abstract: The detector comprises an optoelectronic sensing unit (3) and a transparent rule (2) having two parallel graduation tracks (4, 5). One track (5) has incremental graduation of constant step and the other track (4) has pseudo-random graduation forming binary coding bits constituting a continuous sequence of words which are different from each other, the width of a bit being a function of the step of the incremental graduation. The incremental track (5) is read through a sensing graticule (9) by photodetectors (8) which are 90 electrical degrees out of phase in order to permit an interpolation in the step of said track. The track (4) with pseudo-random graduation is read by a CCD detector (11) through an image-enlarging lens (13). The signals generated are processed by circuits (15a, 15b) which assure the combining of the information taken from the two tracks of the rule.
