  • Patent number: 5599268
Abstract: A linear drive apparatus for moving a canon in a packaging machine from a first position to a second position is set forth. The apparatus includes first and second spaced apart guide rods and an engagement assembly that is disposed between and slidably engages the first and second guide rods. The engagement assembly is adapted to engage one or more cartons for movement between the first and second positions. The apparatus further includes a drive shall onto which a drive roller is disposed for co-rotation. A first drive belt is connected to the drive roller and disposed about the drive roller in a clockwise direction at a first end thereof while a second end of the first drive belt is connected to a first portion of the engagement assembly.

  • Patent number: 5517801
Abstract: A gable-bottom carton gripper is disclosed for lifting and transporting container blanks between various positions within a packaging machine. Container blanks are sealed in a gable-bottom configuration using predesigned sealing jaws. The sealing jaws feature strategically placed ribs which, during ultrasonic sealing of the container bottoms, cause the formation of a longitudinal bubble disposed along a bottom fin of each gable-bottom container. A carton gripper is adapted to grip the bottom fin while supporting the bottom panels of the container. The gripper includes a rigid member bent to conform to the shape of a gable-bottom container, with a gripping edge defining a fin channel to secure the bottom fin within a fin chamber. The longitudinal bubble prevents the fin from being displaced from the fin chamber during the lifting and transporting process.

  • Patent number: 4484977
Abstract: In the manufacture of packing containers of the non-returnable type for, e.g., milk, the forming and closing of the ridgelike top of the filled packing container represents the final phase in the manufacture. The top is provided with sealing panels which are intended jointly to form a top fin on the closed packing container. The present invention relates to an arrangement for the processing of a packing container by compressing and sealing the top fin of the container. The arrangement includes two processing jaws which are movably suspended in spring elements and are movable symmetrically between an active position wherein the jaws contact the sealing fin and an inactive position wherein the jaws are spaced from the sealing fin.

  • Patent number: 4293409
Abstract: A dialysis system is disclosed for treatment of a first fluid with dialysis fluid, the dialysis fluid being a mixture of water and dialysis concentrate. The system comprises a dialyzer, a source of water, a source of dialysis concentrate, first and second fluid conducting means communicating with the sources of water and dialysis concentrate, pump means associated with the first and second fluid conducting means, and third fluid conducting means for conducting fluid from the pump means to the dialyzer. The pump means serves to draw water and dialysis concentrate through the first and second fluid conducting means respectively, and to mix the water and dialysis concentrate so that a mixture of water and dialysis concentrate is conducted through the third fluid conducting means.

  • Patent number: 4240291
Abstract: A flow meter is provided for measuring the flow rate of fluid through a conduit having an inlet and an outlet, which includes a measuring chamber having a float disposed therein for movement in response to fluid flow, and a detector for detecting the movement of the float in the measuring chamber. Various devices are provided for controlling the path of fluid flow from the conduit outlet to the conduit inlet, which includes apparatus for allowing fluid to flow from the outlet through the measuring chamber in a first direction so as to move the float in the first direction past the detector, and for also allowing fluid to flow from the outlet through the measuring chamber in a second direction so as to move the float in the second direction past the detector. Apparatus is connected to the detector for measuring the rate of fluid flow in response to the movement of the float in the first and second directions.

  • Patent number: 4191359
Abstract: Control apparatus for controlling or adjusting the position of a control member is disclosed. The control apparatus includes first and second members, pivotally connected together to pivot about a point. A control member is mounted on the first member and is disposed at a first distance from the pivot point. Coarse control means operatively associated with the control member are provided for coarsely adjusting the position of the control member relative to the second member. Further, fine control means are provided for finely adjusting the position of the control member relative to the second member. The fine control means acts at an action point on one of the first and second members to pivot the first and second members relative to each other about the pivot point.

  • Patent number: 4158034
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sterilization of a dialysis system. The dialysis system comprises a dialyzer, a receptacle for water and a receptacle for dialysis concentrate, and fluid conducting means for conducting fluids from the receptacles for water and dialysis concentrate to and through the dialyzer. The method includes the steps of terminating the conducting of dialysis concentrate through the fluid conducting means, introducing sterilizing agent into the fluid conducting means at a first point in the fluid conducting means, conducting the sterilizing agent through the fluid conducting means downstream of the first point, and directing a portion of the sterilizing agent from a second point in the fluid conducting means to a third point in the fluid conducting means, the second point being downstream of the first point and the third point being upstream of the first point.
