  • Patent number: 5166089
Abstract: A method and structure for protecting an integrated circuit from electrostatic discharges are disclosed. A Schottky diode (22) is connected to an input bond pad (12) and to a MOSFET transistor (17) which is desired to be protected. The normally high breakdown voltage required to drive the Schottky diode (22) into conduction is reduced by providing a trigger transistor (24) for prematurely triggering the diode (22). When the base-collector junction of the common emitter configured trigger transistor (24) is driven into avalanche breakdown by the electrostatic discharge, charged carriers (60) are generated, and attracted by the Schottky diode (22). The base (54) of the trigger transistor (24) is biased during normal operations with a supply voltage, and during electrostatic discharges to a higher voltage by an inherent Zener diode (64).

  • Patent number: 5164280
Abstract: The invention is generally accomplished by a method wherein a dry photographic image is formed in an imaging-forming donor layer. The formed image is allowed to diffuse to a receiver layer. A dry acceptor layer is brought into contact with the image-forming layer and then separated such that the image-forming layer is adhered to the acceptor layer. It is preferred that the contact of the acceptor layer and the image-forming layer is under heat and pressure and the preferred material for both layers is dry gelatin.

  • Patent number: 5163739
Abstract: A wheel cover retention system has a wheel cover with a cover face for covering a central portion of a wheel and a plurality of integral tubular extensions for attaching the wheel cover to the lug nuts of the wheel. Each extension has an outer end which opens onto the cover face and also including a plurality of slots extending axially from an inner end with the slots providing a plurality of fingers which axially forcibly engage with an annular rib of a respective lug nut. The fingers each have an abutment with a tapered wall for engaging the lug nut for flexing the finger radially outward as the wheel cover moves axially towards the wheel and a retaining wall for engaging the lug nut restricting disengaging of the fingers with the abutment. • Patent number: 5161742
Abstract: An injection nozzle provided with an inductive needle movement sensor is constructed in such a way that a coil winding of the sensor is faultlessly sealed against overflow oil without more space being required for the needle movement sensor than is required in a construction without a sealing of the coil winding against overflow oil. For this purpose, a coil core of the induction coil is lengthened into a lengthened portion of the chamber in a short-circuit body of the sensor, which chamber receives an induction coil, and a sealing ring seals the coil winding against a guide gap of the magneto armature in the short-circuit body. An annular gap between the short-circuit body and a bore hole wall in a nozzle holder receiving is sealed by means of a sealing ring. A clamping flange connected with the coil core directly contacts an adjacent annular flange of the coil body and the coil winding contacts connection wires on the other side of a clamping flange.

  • Patent number: 5159667
Abstract: This invention relates to an automatic identification method for scanned documents in an electronic document capture and storage system. The invention uses the technique of recognition of global document features compared to a knowledge base of known document types. The system first segments the digitized image of a document into physical and logical areas of significance and attempts to label these areas by determining the type of information they contain, without using OCR techniques. The system then attempts to match the areas segmented to objects described in the knowledge base. The system labels the areas successfully matched then selects the most probable document type based on the areas found within the document. Using computer learning methods, the system is capable of improving its knowledge of the documents it is supposed to recognize, by dynamically modifying the characteristics of its knowledge base thus sharpening its decision making capability.

  • Patent number: 5159203
Abstract: In safety circuits for braking or arresting devices (7) of flywheel masses or machine parts, especially a revolving door, which are driven by electric motor and can be switched on electrically, in which at least one of two edges moving toward each other is provided with a pressure-sensitive electrical switching member (3) for generating interference signals. Interference signals generated during a disturbance are sent to an electronic control unit (1) and are used, by an electronic switch (8), to switch off the drive motor (10) and/or to switch on a braking or arresting device (7). The movement of the part provided with the movable edge or element is stopped even when the electrical switch (8) of the control unit (1) does not respond correctly in the presence of an interference signal. The reliability of the safety circuit is continuously checked.

  • Patent number: 5156415
Abstract: A device for the longitudinal adjustment of heel holders which includes a guide rail provided with a row of holes, on which guide rail is guided a guide plate carrying the heel holder. Two coil springs are housed in a spring cage and are supported in a recess of the guide plate, of which coil springs at least one coil spring loads the spring cage in direction of a locking member provided with at least one projection. In order to prevent, upon the penetration of snow or dirt into the open areas of the guide plate, the locking member from loosening up and possibly becoming disengaged, the invention provides that the rear crosswall of the spring cage has a bore in the region of the other coil spring, the diameter of which bore is greater than the diameter of the other coil spring so that the latter continuously bears against the locking member.

  • Patent number: 5157653
Abstract: An echo canceller with an adaptive convolution processor for computing and subtracting an anticipated echo has a nonlinear processor coupled to the error signal and to the send output. The nonlinear processor is responsive to average values and attenuates the error signal over a continuous range as a function of presence of send and receive signals, rather than coupling and decoupling the error signal to the output in the manner of a center clipper. Attenuation is altered rapidly when one of the send and receive ends is active, which may be detected by their averages or by loss across a summing junction providing the error signal. Attenuation is decreased gradually neither of the send and receive ends are active. The error signal attenuation level is also used to control injection of artificial noise.

  • Patent number: 5156826
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for the elimination of odoriferous substances in gases or vapors produced by processes for the treatment of organic materials, for instance foodstuffs or luxury foods, in a processing plant. For the elimination of these odoriferous substances the invention proposes that the gases or vapors are supplied to a furnace installation of the processing plant and subjected therein to temperatures of at least 400.degree. C., the heat generated by the furnace installation being directly or indirectly, and at least in part, used for the respective treatment process. According to the invention, an apparatus for performing the method is characterized in that a gas or vapor discharge duct of a vessel used or heating, boiling, roasting, deep-frying, cooking and/or melting of the materials to be processed is connected to the furnace installation by a gas flow duct.
