  • Patent number: 5264128
Abstract: A process for purifying water, which comprises passing water contaminated with halogenated compounds through one or more fixed or fluidized bed reactors which are connected in series and packed with an adsorbent material which is inoculated with one or more microorganisms. The process results in almost complete elimination of the halogenated hydrocarbons.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 28, 1990
Date of Patent: November 23, 1993
    Assignee: Ciba-Geigy Corporation
Inventors: Markus Thuer, Gerhard Stucki, Rolf Bentz
  • Patent number: 5082475
Abstract: A novel waste air purification process based on a buffer unit/biofilter system and equipment for carrying out this process are described.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 25, 1989
Date of Patent: January 21, 1992
    Assignee: Ciba-Geigy Corporation
    Inventor: Rolf Bentz
  • Patent number: 5064763
Abstract: The application relates to a process for the biological disposal and purification of waste air which is contaminated with hazardous substances with the aid of biofilters. The breakdown efficiency of the biofilter is increased by adding to the waste air basic compounds which are in the form of a gas or dissolved.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 27, 1989
Date of Patent: November 12, 1991
    Assignee: Ciba-Geigy Corporation
    Inventor: Rolf Bentz
  • Patent number: 4441896
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for recovering preferably water-insoluble organic substances such as nitrobenzene, dichlorobenzene and/or trichlorobenzene by absorption from spent air vapors which contain these substances. The process comprises passing the spent air vapors through a high-boiling organic liquid, preferably polyethylene glycol, subsequently adding water to the saturated absorbent and separating the recovered organic substance from the absorbent/water mixture after phase separation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 13, 1982
Date of Patent: April 10, 1984
    Assignee: Ciba-Geigy Corporation
    Inventors: Rolf Bentz, Christian Schori
  • Patent number: 4323372
Abstract: A process for recovering nitrobenzene, dichlorobenzene and/or trichlorobenzene from substantially undried exhaust gases or spent air containing these compounds, by passing said gases through a layer of silica-containing adsorbents and, after adsorption, regenerating the adsorbents by removing the sorbed compounds. The relative humidity of the waste vapors is preferably less than 50% in order to achieve an effective separation by adsorption.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 10, 1980
Date of Patent: April 6, 1982
    Assignee: Ciba-Geigy Corporation
    Inventors: Rolf Bentz, Volker Fattinger
