  • Publication number: 20110025317
Abstract: The present application discloses a magnetostrictive sensor (MsS) probe for guided-wave inspection of the entire length of a fuel rod. The probe includes a waveguide adapted to be clamped to a fuel rod, and an MsS adapted to generate guided waves into the waveguide such that the guided waves propagate down the waveguide into the fuel rod and back to the waveguide for detection by the MsS.

  • Patent number: 7421915
Abstract: A nondestructive inspection apparatus is designed to inspect components in a small gap of a structure. A main body 19 of the nondestructive inspection apparatus is positioned on a spray line header 13 connected to a thermal sleeve 16 within a cooling water inlet nozzle 12, and fixed to a core spray line 14 by vertically clamping the core spray line 14 with fixing units 21a, 21b at the position where the thermal sleeve 16 to be inspected is located. Scanners 24a, 24b insert a tape probe 27 having an inspection head 28 inside an annular gap 17 formed between the thermal sleeve 16 and the cooling water inlet nozzle 12 in an axial direction. The scanners 24a, 24b are guided by guide rails 22a, 22b to move the tape prove 27 so that the inspection head 28 can move in the circumferential direction of the annular gap 17.

  • Publication number: 20060071097
Abstract: Man-portable systems and methods for dispensing an anti-traction, mobility denial material on a target surface. In various exemplary embodiments, a method of dispensing an anti-traction material on a target surface includes providing a dry polymer powder to a first section of a dispensing nozzle, providing a water stream to a separate second section of a dispensing nozzle, and mixing the polymer powder with the water stream upon exit of the streams out of the first and second sections of the dispensing nozzle to form the anti-traction material on the target surface, the formed anti-traction material being a gel.

  • Patent number: 6004412
Abstract: A sealing system for repairing an aperture or notch of a damaged plastic pipe. The sealing system comprises a patch member and an attachment tool. The patch member includes a top side, a bottom side, and comprises, in part, a thermoplastic material. The attachment tool includes a housing, a power source associated with the housing, a base member, attachment members for attaching the base member to the patch member, and members which facilitate positioning to the power source relative to the housing. The invention further includes a method of repairing an aperture or notch of a damaged plastic pipe.

  • Patent number: 4598290
Abstract: A fiber optic bulkhead penetrator for allowing fiber optic communication lines to penetrate through an undersea bulkhead employed in offshore oil well exploration and production apparatus having a very high pressure differential thereacross. The arrangement consists of a port and cofferdam installed in the undersea oil well exploration and production apparatus, and a bullnose penetrator, having a plurality of bulkheads therein, terminating an undersea fiber optic cable used for data transmission. The bullnose penetrator serves as a mating plug for a port provided in the oil well apparatus, with three sets of seals isolating the single-atmosphere environment from the ambient seawater pressure. A shoulder is provided on the penetrator and in the port to hold the penetrator in place once the cofferdam is evacuated and lowered to habitat pressure.
