  • Patent number: 5887102
Abstract: A multi input fiber optic apparatus for cooperating with a plurality of sources, the apparatus having output ends of the individual fiber optics disposed in a random pattern, wherein a dimension of the linear array is broken into sub-lengths and each sub-length has a number of input bundles corresponding to the number of inputs for the apparatus. The input bundles are randomized at the output ends within each sub-length. The apparatus includes a housing for supporting a plurality of randomized sub lengths disposed adjacent each other within the housing, wherein each sub length includes a plurality of sub-bundles, the number of sub-bundles equaling or corresponding to the number of sources, and a plurality of inputs optical connected to the sub lengths, each of the inputs including a sub-bundle from each sub-length.

  • Patent number: 5418879
Abstract: A distributed light delivery system for the illumination of printed circuit boards during fault detection operations is provided. The system has at least one light delivery bar having at least two optical light lines. Each optical light line is composed of an array of optical fibers. The entire array of optical fibers are oriented within the light delivery bar at one of at least two predetermined angles. When the light bar is properly mounted and directed on a staging apparatus, the light delivery bar is effective to illuminate all four sides and the top of three-dimensional components. The distributed light delivery system thus provides uniform and substantially shadow-free illumination of discrete through-hole technology components inserted through printed circuit boards, solder paste screened onto bare circuit boards, and/or SMD technology components mounted on printed circuit boards.

  • Patent number: 5187765
Abstract: A light emitting panel backlighted by an optical fiber assembly is provided in which the individual optical fibers are positioned in parallel across the bottom of a frame and transverse notches are scored in the cladding so as to permit lateral emission of light along the length of the fibers. The lateral emissions impinge on an emitter and are projected onto a diffusing plate mounted in the top of the frame to provide uniform illumination throughout the entire area of the light emitting panel. Increased light throughput is obtained by inducing air flow at the end of the optical fiber bundle to keep the end surface cool by removing the heat from light energy impinging upon the end.
