  • Patent number: 6340129
Abstract: A method for operating a work station (10) of a cheese-making textile machine. A work station computer (32) communicates with a tensile yarn force sensor (54) for monitoring the tensile yarn force of a yarn (22) traveling from a supply bobbin (12) to a takeup bobbin (14). A yarn tensioner (36) regulates the tensile yarn force of this yarn and a yarn cutting device (52) performs a controlled severing of the running yarn. According to the invention, the work station computer (32) predetermines the contact pressure (APD) of a yarn braking device (114, 116) of the yarn tensioner (36) acting on the yarn (22) in accordance with the tensile yarn force ascertained by the tensile yarn force sensor (54), compares the predetermined contact pressure (APDist) with a predetermined contact pressure value (APDmax), and interrupts the bobbin winding process if the limit value is attained or exceeded for a predetermined time period (t2−t1).

  • Patent number: 6270033
Abstract: A method for operating the winding heads of a bobbin winding machine each of which respectively has a yarn tension sensor connected to a work station computer for detecting the actual tension in a yarn traveling from a delivery bobbin to a take-up bobbin, a yarn tensioner for regulating the yarn tension, a splicing device for automatic connection of yarn ends following a yarn break and/or a yarn cleaning cut, and a delivery bobbin changing device. After a splicing of the broken or cut yarn ends, the actual yarn tension is detected by the yarn tension sensor, and the detected value is compared in the work station computer with a threshold value which, if exceeded, results in actuation of the delivery bobbin changing device to provide a fresh delivery bobbin.

  • Patent number: 6232732
Abstract: In a method for braking an electric drive motor, especially a drive motor for driving a grooved drum of a winding head of a bobbin winding machine which motor is loaded for braking in a direction opposite to a rated nominal current with a braking current, the instantaneous thermal load of the drive motor is detected and the strength of the brake current is selected as a function of this thermal load of the drive motor.

  • Patent number: 5862660
Abstract: A method for removing both long and short yarn defects at the winding heads of a bobbin winding machine. Following the appearance of a yarn defect, the length of the defective yarn between the time of the appearance of the defect and the time of a subsequent yarn cut is determined. A suction tube is positioned in front of the winding bobbin to aspirate the defective yarn therefrom. The yarn is unwound, the entry of the yarn into the suction tube is determined by means of a sensor disposed therein, and the yarn length unwound from the winding bobbin and entering the suction tube is determined.

  • Patent number: 5725165
Abstract: A method for monitoring a traveling yarn at a winding station of an automatic winding machine having an electronic slub catcher which produces an AC voltage signal proportional to a dynamic yarn signal responsive to yarn movement and a yarn cutting signal responsive to a fluctuation in yarn dimension outside a predetermined tolerance range includes the steps of producing a static yarn signal responsive to the presence of yarn in the electronic slub catcher, monitoring and evaluating the static yarn signal, producing a separating signal responsive to the absence of static yarn signal due to the absence of yarn from the slub catcher and monitoring and evaluating the separating signal.

  • Patent number: 5605296
Abstract: A method and apparatus for correcting an interruption of yarn travel resulting in a trailing yarn end from a take-up bobbin and a leading yarn end from a feed bobbin, wherein after the interruption of yarn travel, the take-up bobbin is braked to a stop and a sensor detects the absence of the trailing yarn end from the take-up bobbin. If the absence is detected, the take-up bobbin is rotated in the take-up direction until the trailing yarn end is wound onto the take-up bobbin. If the absence is not detected, it is assumed that the trailing yarn end is wound onto the take-up bobbin. A catcher nozzle is provided for aspirating the trailing end if it is not wound onto the take-up bobbin, and the sensor is associated with the catcher nozzle. A suction nozzle is provided for aspirating the yarn end from the peripheral surface of the take-up bobbin and placing the trailing yarn end in a yarn end joining device where it is joined to the leading yarn end.

  • Patent number: 5595351
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a winding station of a bobbin winding machine when changing a take-up bobbin includes driving the take-up bobbin by contact with a yarn guide drum depositing a yarn, and bringing the take-up bobbin to a standstill by controlled deceleration of a rotary speed of the yarn guide drum after ascertaining that a predetermined yarn quantity has been reached, until the yarn guide drum comes to a standstill. This is done while producing a varying slip between a surface of the yarn guide drum and a surface of the take-up bobbin effecting ribbon prevention but being limited to avoid knocking the yarn off the bobbin and damage to the surface of the bobbin. A winding station of a bobbin winding machine includes a yarn guide drum driving a take-up bobbin by contact while depositing a traveling yarn on the take-up bobbin. A drive mechanism for the yarn guide drum has a rotary field motor. An electronic yarn cleaner monitors the traveling yarn.

  • Patent number: 5301886
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for operating a textile winding machine to wind yarn packages with the capability to verify a reported yarn break situation and to respond accordingly in the event that a yarn break has not, in fact, occurred. A sensing device at a textile winding station senses the travel of a yarn therepast as the yarn is wound from a supply package onto a take-up package. In the event of a yarn break or movement of the yarn beyond the sensing range of the sensing device, the sensor reports the absence of yarn to a control unit. The control unit responds to the signal from the sensing device by stopping the yarn winding operation and implementing a yarn re-establishment operation.

  • Patent number: 5082194
Abstract: A method and apparatus for restoring the normal winding of yarn following a yarn break during a textile winding process is provided. A lower yarn end engaging member executes a predetermined number of attempts to engage a lower yarn end and a package exchange member exchanges a supply package for a fresh supply package in response to the detection of the absence of engagement of a lower yarn end after the predetermined number of lower yarn end engaging cycles. Once a lower yarn end is detected, an upper yarn end engaging means performs a predetermined number of attempts to engage an upper yarn end. If engagement of an upper yarn end is detected after a predetermined number of attempts, the lower yarn end and the upper yarn end are joined together and normal winding is resumed. If an upper yarn end is not detected after a predetermined number of attempts, a problem indicating member is activated to indicate to an operator that normal winding of yarn cannot be restored.

  • Patent number: 4964582
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting and utilizing the bobbin circumference of cross-wound bobbins or cheeses in a textile machine producing the bobbins includes determining and evaluating the attained circumference of the cheese from measured values produced by sensors detecting the growth of the cheese. The measured values are continuously detected and processed and optionally stored in memory in at least one computer for further evaluation. A mathematical linkage symbolizing the current bobbin circumference cleansed of randomness in the current measured value pickup at very short time intervals based on the measured values for each winding station is continuously and repeatedly performed anew in the further evaluation. A parameter from the group consisting of current bobbin circumference, bobbin radius or bobbin diameter is calculated from the linkage.

  • Patent number: 4805844
Abstract: In a textile winding machine of the type wherein yarn is cross-wound onto a bobbin peripherally driven by a friction roller, the winding operation may be monitored and controlled to achieve a high winding quality by constantly varying the time period per revolution of the friction roller, constantly measuring the respective time periods per revolution of the bobbin and the roller, at least intermittently comparing the measured revolution time periods, and regulating the friction roller drive or stopping the winding operation altogether or otherwise intervening in the winding operation as a function of deviations of the comparison result from established theoretical values.
