Abstract: Various systems and methods for determining a start of fuel injection including a gaseous fuel in an internal combustion engine are provided. In one embodiment, an end of gas injection, a duration of gas injection, and a start of gas injection in an induction pipe of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine is determined based on one or more operating parameters. An earliest possible start of gas injection is further determined, and if the start of gas injection is before the earliest possible start of gas injection, at least one of the one or more operating parameters is modified such that the start of gas injection does not occur before the earliest possible start of gas injection.

Abstract: In a pulling over and toe lasting machine, the pincers first grip the lasting margin above the wiping plane, whereafter the upper is tensioned about its last by upward movement of the last support, from an initial, lowered, position to a position in which the last bottom is in the wiping plane, and by downward movement of the pincers. The machine also comprises auxiliary means by which any wiper remaining in the wiping plane after the upper has been tensioned as aforesaid can be moved downwardly out of said plane so as not to impede the in-wiping movement of the wipers. When the auxiliary means is actuated, furthermore, the gripping force applied by the pincers to the upper is reduced to allow slippage of the upper in the pincers.

Abstract: A manipulator for movement of articles in a controlled environment chamber, specially a high vacuum chamber, in which a bellows has one end sealingly connected to a wall of the chamber and has a cover sealingly connected to the other end with a closed sleeve in the cover and also sealingly connected to the other end of the bellows. A ball is located in about the center of the bellows and a ball cup supporting the ball is fixed to the wall of the chamber. The connection of the ball cup and the bellows to the chamber wall is advantageously by means of a flange. A manipulator rod is slidable in the ball and one of the ball and rod is rotatable. Magnetic means on the manipulator rod in the sleeve is coupled to magnet means outside the sleeve and by manipulation of the magnet means the rod can be reciprocated and rotated. The cover is provided with extensible supports connected between the cover and the flange for tilting the cover together with the sleeve and manipulator rod on the flange.

Abstract: A shoe machine for pulling and lasting shoe uppers and insoles on lasts has a pair of wiping elements, one operating heelwardly of the other in the joint region. After the upper has been pulled over and the insole has been cemented, the first wiping elements wipe in the upper margin at the joint with a toeward motion, which wiping elements then retract. The second wiping elements wipe in adjacent portions of the lasting margin, the wiping action of the second wipers overlapping that of the first wiping elements to wipe down any creases formed thereby. The main toe wiper plates operate to wipe in the toe and forepart portions of the upper. The insole cementing plate has heelward extensions hinged thereto which are yieldably urged upward by springs. Cement is fed to the extensions via passageways in their connective pivot pins.
