Patent number: 5182931Abstract: A method and an arrangement for continuous tension stretching of thin metal strips. The strip is conducted through a set of brake rollers and a set of pull rollers and the strip is subjected to a stretch-forming or stretch pull operation between the two sets of rollers for stretching the strip in the plastic range, wherein the stretch pull force corresponds to the yield point of the strip material. The strip is subjected between the set of brake rollers and the set of pull rollers only to a stretch-pull which is required for stretching the strip in the plastic range. As a result, transverse elongation during plastic stretching is minimized, so that center troughs no longer occur and, when the strip is longitudinally divided, the strip portions no longer have unequal side lengths.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1990Date of Patent: February 2, 1993Assignee: BWG Bergwerk-und Walzwerk Maschinenbau GmbHInventors: Oskar Noe, Rolf Noe, Andreas Noe

Patent number: 4955553Abstract: A reel for coiling and uncoiling metal strips includes an expanding mandrel which is actuated by a spreader cylinder. The expanding mandrel is driven by a drive motor with a control and computing unit for determining the outer diameter of the coil at any given time. The outer diameter is introduced into a microprocessor which determines the initial spreading pressure and the winding pull to be maintained. The winding pull to be maintained is introduced into the control and computing unit. The microprocessor further determines, in dependence on the outer diameter of the coil, the required spreading pressure which is generated in the spreading cyclinder. As a result, the expanding mandrel always operates with a spreading force which is dependent upon the outer diameter of the coil at any given time, so that overloading is eliminated and wear is substantially reduced.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1989Date of Patent: September 11, 1990Assignee: BWG Bergwerk- und Walzwerk-Maschinenbau GmbHInventors: Oskar Noe, Rolf Noe, Andreas Noe, Herbert Lux

Patent number: 4602408Abstract: A roll for a hot- or cold-rolling stand has a core having an outer surface centered on an axis and a pair of axially opposite ends and respective conduits extending through the core and opening adjacent the ends thereof. A sleeve having an outer surface, axially opposite ends, and an inner surface centered on the axis coaxially surrounds the core. One of the surfaces has a central portion projecting radially toward and engaging the other surface between the ends in all-around annular contact. Respective elastic and annular seals engage radially between the ends of the rolls, that is each seal engages betwen one end of the sleeve and the corresponding end of the core. These seals define respective annular compartments at the ends, between the roll surfaces, and subdivided axially from each other by the central portion of the one surface. Each conduit opens into a respective one of the compartments.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1984Date of Patent: July 29, 1986Assignee: BWG Bergwerk- und Walzwerk-Maschinenbau GmbHInventors: Andreas Noe, Rolf Noe

Patent number: 4539830Abstract: A thin metal strip is made by hot-rolling a strip workpiece, stretch-bend leveling the hot-rolled strip workpiece immediately after hot-rolling it, tensioning the strip workpiece with a predetermined tension while stretch-bend leveling it, and thereafter coiling up the workpiece. In addition the workpiece is rapidly cooled immediately after stretch-bend leveling it and before coiling it up. Thus the workpiece is stretch-bend leveled before it cools so it can be treated while still about 1100.degree. C., at which temperature it is still very plastic. The workpiece can therefore be deformed greatly while under modest tension, so as to produce a very thin product that is very uniform. The tension in the strip merely serves to keep the workpiece looped over as much an arc as possible around the stretch-bending rolls.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1983Date of Patent: September 10, 1985Assignee: BWG Bergwerk-und Walzwerk-Maschinenbau GmbHInventors: Oskar Noe, Andreas Noe, Rolf Noe

Patent number: 4534198Abstract: An apparatus used in combination with a hot-rolling line having a succession of roll stands through which passes a strip workpiece in a horizontal transport direction has at least one vessel downstream of the roll stands in the direction and aligned in the direction therewith. This vessel is formed with an upstream inlet and a downstream outlet. A bath of a liquid coolant fills the vessel to a level above the inlet and outlet openings. Guides draw the workpiece from the roll stands into the inlet, through the vessel, and out of the outlet thereof. Thus the workpiece is wholly immersed in and cooled by the liquid coolant within the vessel. A pump feeds fresh coolant into the vessel and withdraws hot coolant therefrom. A plurality of such vessels, each with a respective bath and pump means, is provided with all of the inlets and outlets aligned. The inlet and outlet are formed as horizontally extending slots closely conforming the cross-sectional shape of the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1983Date of Patent: August 13, 1985Assignee: BWG Bergwerk - und Walzwerk-Maschinenbau GmbHInventors: Oskar Noe, Andreas Noe, Rolf Noe

Patent number: 4464805Abstract: A metal-strip pickling apparatus has feed means including upstream and downstream bridle-roller pairs for longitudinally displacing the strip under longitudinal tension along a straight transport path from the upstream bridle-roller pair to the downstream bridle-roller pair. A housing longitudinally traversed by the strip is subdivided longitudinally by a succession of transverse partitions into a longitudinal succession of compartments each having a respective treatment bath, normally of acid. Each partition has a rigid lower partition half having an upper edge and an upper partition half having a lower edge portion elastically engaging the upper face of the strip moving along the path. The upper edges all are longitudinally aligned and touch the lower face of the strip moving along the path. The acid baths have liquid levels above the upper edges of the respective lower partition halves. The lower portions of the upper partition halves seal tightly with the strip and respective lower partition halves.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1982Date of Patent: August 14, 1984Assignee: BWG Bergwerk- Und Walzwerk-Maschinenbau GmbHInventors: Oskar Noe, Andreas Noe, Rolf Noe, Heinz W.
