  • Patent number: 4691601
Abstract: A flange of a structural shape is cut by a saw apparatus with a rotary metal saw which has a specified number of sawteeth. The structural steel shape lies on a table or roller bed, clamped onto a stationary piece of equipment with a vise, within range of the metal saw. The metal saw is operated at a specified number of r.p.m. and is driven toward the projected sawcut at a specified feed speed. The speed of the cut is determined by the number of r.p.m., the number of sawteeth and the radius of the metal saw. During the sawing process the structural flange is subjected to a forced elastic deflection and is impacted by the thus required restoring force and movements of the sawteeth. These movements are determined by the tooth succession time which, in turn, depends on the number of sawteeth and the number of r.p.m. The oscillation time of the oscillation of the structural flange, which was activated by the elastic deflection, is ascertained. The metal saw is then operated at a number of r.p.m.

  • Patent number: 4676700
Abstract: An apparatus for drilling a large profile workpiece has a support fixable relative to the workpiece, a drill arbor centered on an axis intersecting the workpiece, a bit coaxially carried on the arbor, and a drive connected to the arbor for advancing the bit toward the workpiece either at a relatively fast advance speed or at a relatively slow boring speed. A guide element displaceable in the support parallel to the axis is secured by a compression spring to the arbor for joint movement parallel to the axis with a predetermined limited lost-motion stroke, in other words, the arbor and element can only move relative to each other through this stroke. A switch carried on the element and a switch operator carried on the arbor control axial movement of the arbor along with an abutment carried on the element and a stop on the support engageable with the abutment that define an outer position for the guide element and arbor.

  • Patent number: 4667383
Abstract: A drilling machine for heavy steel structural shapes (e.g. profiles such as I-beams) has one or more of the drill carriages provided with a cantilever arm carrying a burner which is also operated by the numeral controller of the drilling machine. The latter receives a displacement measuring input from an additional detector associated with the drive which may be spaced from the drills in the direction of feed of the I-beam on a roller conveyor to permit burner cutting of the drilling end of the I-beam. The two drives may be synchronized by a universal joint shaft.

  • Patent number: 4664566
Abstract: A drilling device includes a frame with a stationary and a movable upright and a transverse beam which connects said uprights with each other along which a drilling unit moves transversely to the advance direction of the workpiece and is set to provide boreholes in accordance to the center of a standard workpiece of nominal height. The workpiece is transported by a roller table and clamped by the movable upright to define a clamping path. Connected to the movable upright is a lever assembly which transmits the horizontal movement of this upright to a vertical bar. The displacement of the vertical bar rotates a horizontal rod which is linked via a crank arm/lever assembly to a transmission bar moved in horizontal direction upon rotation of the rod. The transmission bar is connected to a correction unit which in response to the determination of the clamping path acts on the drilling unit to adjust the latter in dependence on the actual height of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4632365
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting a steel profile, profile bar, and the like comprises a roller conveyor, at least one driven feed roller, a cutting torch mounted behind the driven feed roller in a positive feed direction, and a burr removal device. A workpiece lying on a roller press is movable in both the positive and the negative feed direction. The cutting torch is movable transverse to the feed direction. The burr removal device comprises a burr-removal shaft with a milling member, which is mounted behind the driven feed roller in the positive feed direction. The burr-removal shaft extends over the entire width of the roller conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4600099
Abstract: A conveyor for transporting an elongated workpiece in a normal horizontal transport direction and generally perpendicular to the workpiece has a rail extending horizontally in the normal transport direction. A carriage rides on the rail in the transport direction and pivotally carries a pair of end links at respective generally parallel support axes extending horizontally generally perpendicular to the transport direction and spaced apart in the transport direction. A lifting member is pivoted on the end links at respective member axes generally parallel to and offset from the support axes. A lower link pivoted on the end links below the lifting member forms with the lifting member and end links a parallelogrammatic linkage which is movable between a raised position with the member projecting above the rail and a lowered position with the member below the upper rail surface. A spring urges the linkage into the upper position.

  • Patent number: 4573860
Abstract: Equipment for disentangling bars, particularly elongated concrete-reinforcing bars comprising a storage bed consisting of relatively longitudinally spaced frames extending at right angles to the length of the bars each provided with upwardly directed substantially V-shaped mutually aligned cut-outs, vertically liftable supports between said frames also extending at right angles to the length of the bars each having a central portion formed with an upper edge the width of which is less than the maximum width of the V-shaped cut-outs, a vertical slot extending downwardly through the central portion of each liftable support, each slot being provided with vertical guide means for a bulkhead which is vertically displaceable relative to its associated support. In the raised position these bulkheads essentially form the central portions of the supports whereas in the lowered position they lie below the level of a conveyor formed by conveyor rollers mounted in the supports.

  • Patent number: 4545233
Abstract: An apparatus for punching a workpiece has a stationary frame, a longitudinally extending row of horizontally spaced and upwardly facing different dies fixed on the frame below a horizontally elongated punching station, at least one horizontal and stationary rail fixed on the frame, and a punch carriage displaceable horizontally along the rail above the station. A turret rotates about a horizontal turret axis on the carriage and carries a plurality of radially outwardly directed different punches angularly spaced about the turret axis. A positioning unit is operatively connected between the carriage and the frame for displacing the carriage through a plurality of positions in each of which the turret axis is above one of the dies. An indexing unit angularly displaces the turret about its axis through positions in each of which one of the punches is facing down in the station toward the respective die.

  • Patent number: 4501507
Abstract: An apparatus for embossing an imprint in a workpiece has a rigid frame having a front end to one side of the workpiece to be embossed and a rear end to the other side thereof. At least the front end of the frame can move relative to the workpiece in a longitudinal direction across the workpiece and between the front and rear frame ends. An anvil on the front frame end is engageable with the one side of the workpiece. A tool support on the rear end of the frame can move longitudinally relative to same and to the workpiece. A tool wheel rotatable on the tool support about a transverse tool axis generally perpendicular to the longitudinal direction has a periphery carrying a plurality of different embossing tools spaced angularly about the tool axis. This wheel is angularly displaceable through a plurality of respective positions in each of which a respective one of the tools longitudinally forwardly confronts the other side of the workpiece in line longitudinally with the anvil.
