  • Patent number: 4956140
Abstract: In accordance with the instant invention, biaxially oriented polymer sheet is produced by continuously forging polymer feedstock between a pair of converging belts in an isochoric deformation region to form the sheet from the feedstock. The resulting sheet is immediately annealed after being formed and subsequently cooled after being annealed by passage through an isobaric region defined by a pair of opposed parallel belts backed by a pair of opposed parallel platens which interface with the belts via an oil seal so as to transfer heat from the sheet through the belts to the cooled platens. The resulting sheet has substantially uniform strain distribution over the width and length thereof as well as through the thickness thereof while maintaining its flatness after emerging from the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4478637
Abstract: Magnesium is produced by a thermal reduction process in a reaction-condensation system having a reaction zone and a condensation zone. According to this process, a reducing agent containing ferrosilicon and at least 25 wt. % aluminum is contacted in the reaction zone with a calcium-silicon-aluminum-magnesium oxide slag to produce magnesium vapor. The magnesium vapor is transported from the reaction zone to the condensation zone and condensed therein. The slag is maintained to contain from 1 to 8 wt. % MgO, at least 9 wt. % Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, and have a CaO/SiO.sub.2 weight ratio no less than that provided by the formula 2.1+0.03 (wt. % Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 -9). The slag is also maintained so as to decrepitate upon cooling.

  • Patent number: 4197351
Abstract: Unique polished metal flake pigmented, plastic powder products produced, e.g. by a process including the measure of brush polishing metal flake particles and plastic particles together.

  • Patent number: 4138511
Abstract: A method of using a powder product consisting essentially of thermoplastic or thermosetting polymer based plastic particles and mutually separated, metal flake particles which lie with their faces attached to the surfaces of the plastic particles, said method including applying said powder product to a surface and then melting the plastic particles to form a continuous film on the surface, this being followed by subsequent solidification of the film to obtain a coating of the surface. In an alternate form of the invention, the metal flake particles cover the plastic particles, the quantity of metal flake particles being such that coalescence is inhibited to give a rough, frosted metallic appearance to the surface.
