  • Patent number: 5462422
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a plastic molded part. A plasticized plastic composition is fed to the open mold cavity defined between a lower and an upper mold half. At least one web and perhaps two webs of decorative material to be applied to the molded part extend across the mold cavity. The closing of the mold halves presses the plastic composition against the web or webs. There is at least one two-part clamping frame for resiliently holding the web of decorative material by clamping it outside the mold cavity, so that the web can slip with respect to the composition as the mold halves move together. One clamping frame half is developed with an immersion edge which defines a side edge of the mold cavity and with a cutting plane spaced from the immersion edge a distance sufficient that the frame half also serves as an ejector for the molded part from the mold cavity as the mold halves open apart.

  • Patent number: 4668543
Abstract: A profiled strip, particularly for application to the exterior of an automotive vehicle, is a hollow plastic blow molding with a rear wall for application to the surface of the vehicle and an exposed front wall in which there is a strip of transparent material enabling viewing of the interior of the hollow profiled strip. A decorative trim strip is disposed within the hollow of the molding and is visible through the transparent strip. To manufacture the profiled strip, a tubular extruded profile is extruded around the decorative strip. The decorative strip has adhesive on one surface thereof for adhering to the front wall of the profiled strip. The rear wall of the profiled strip has openings through it through which air is blown for blowing the decorative strip against the front wall for adherence thereto.

  • Patent number: 4563374
Abstract: The invention concerns an elongate decorative and/or protective covering strip particularly for the exterior of an automotive vehicle. The strip is a single piece blow molded strip with a bottom that is applied to a surface and a top that is exposed. To provide length compensation due to temperature variations as between the top and the bottom of the strip and to absorb expansion differences as between the strip and the vehicle body, the bottom of the strip has a plurality of transversely extending groove shaped depressions defined in it along its length. At least some depressions in the bottom of the strip are of a height to extend nearly to the top of the strip and to thereby support the top of the strip against deformation. The depressions may have various heights toward the top of the strip. Transversely extending depressions may alternate with round depressions along the length of the strip.
