  • Patent number: 4460287
Abstract: An improved ribbon lift mechanism for alternately raising a ribbon from a lowered position to first and second elevations relative to a print line. A ribbon lift lever is raised by a cam ring having alternating high and low lift cams separated by valleys for acting on a cam follower directly connected to the ribbon lift lever. The cam ring is indexable by a cyclically movable powered lever which acts to control a locking lever to lock the raised ribbon lift lever at said first and second elevations and to release it for return to lowered position incident to a cycle of the powered lever. The arrangement allows an economy of parts and operation by a relatively weak power source.

  • Patent number: 4423973
Abstract: The invention relates to a mechanism for raising and lowering a ribbon in front of the typing area of a typewriter or similar machine. The mechanism is so designed that only a few lightweight plastic parts need be moved thereby greatly reducing the actuating force necessary to elevate a ribbon. The mechanism also is configured to track the ribbon such that deformation of the ribbon as could impair proper functioning of the lifting and/or transporting of the ribbon during the ribbon lifting motion is minimized.

  • Patent number: 4365900
Abstract: Disclosed is a printing plane adjusting mechanism for a typewriter or similar machine wherein a paper handling system including a platen defining the printing plane is finely as well as coarsely adjustable by a single lever relative to a printing element to establish a predetermined normal distance between the printing plane and printing element or varied distances other than normal to accommodate paper packs of varying thickness. Adjustment of the normal distance or gap is effected without loosening or tightening screws.

  • Patent number: 4341477
Abstract: A paper handling assembly supporting a platen, a paper bail adjustably mounted for movement relative to said platen and a paper guide trough adjustably mounted for movement relative to said platen. The assembly includes a common shaft which mounts a first paper pack thickness adjusting lever operative to rotate said shaft to effect movement of the entire paper handling assembly relative to a frame to adjust the printing gap, rotatably supports a second paper bail adjusting lever operative to adjustably move said paper bail, and rotatably supports a third paper trough adjusting lever operative to adjustably move said paper trough.

  • Patent number: 4313682
Abstract: Disclosed is a device for use in type disc typewriters or similar machines having types carried by spokes radially extending from a common hub which is rotated to position a selected spoke at a print position. The device is operative to lock the type disc at the selected position and to restrain vibration of spokes adjacent to the spoke at the printing position. To this end there is provided a lever which acts against the hammer side of the type disc shortly before the printing of the selected type to displace the selected type spoke and interpose itself between adjacent type spokes to either side of the selected type spoke to preclude axial as well as circumferential vibration of the type disc.
