  • Patent number: 5354120
Abstract: In a reclining chair a seat carrier and a reclining backrest carrier are movably interconnected to perform synchronized shifting movements relative to the frame of the chair. The bottom end portion of the backrest carrier extends under the seat carrier. Connecting means connect the seat carrier and the backrest carrier to each other and cause them to move at the same time. When the body of a person sitting on the seat carrier initiates a shifting movement of the backrest carrier from a steep position to a reclined position, the seat carrier will be moved forwardly at the same time and at least its rear portion will be lowered. Because the backrest carrier and the seat carrier are connected to the connecting means at spaced apart points, any movement of one of said carriers will be transmitted to the connecting means and by the latter to the other carrier. In spite of their connection by the connecting means the two carriers are guided on the frame along paths which are independent of each other.

  • Patent number: 5150948
Abstract: A chair which is provided with a seat having an adjustable inclination comprises a seat carrier, which is pivoted by a first pivot to a link arrangement which carry the seat, a back rest, which is carried by a back rest carrier, which is pivoted to the link arrangement by a second pivot, and a device for shifting the chair from a position for work, in which the seat is approximately horizontal and includes with the back rest an angle of about 90 degrees, to a position for reclining, in which the seat is rearwardly inclined and includes an obtuse angle with the back rest. The shift from the position for reclining to the position for work is effected by movements of the body of the occupant and is assisted by springs. The seat carrier is provided with slide bearings and slots, in which the first pivot is displaceable away from the column as the chair is shifted to its position for reclining.

  • Patent number: 4848837
Abstract: A chair has a spring rocker which is articulatad to a seat support at a front edge of the seat. The rocker is connected to a pelvis-hip support by a horizontal pivot device. An entrance section of the pelvis-hip support is longer than an exit section thereof. Synchronizing levers connect the seat support and the pelvis-hip support in such a way that pivoting of the seat results in a relatively greater pivoting of the pelvis-hip support. A backrest is pivotably connected to the exit section of the pelvis-hip support toward the rear against the force of a spring by movement of the body of a seated person. This permits the shell elements of the shell contour of the chair to conform better to the course of movement executed by the body, of the seated person, and to give support throughout the pelvis-hip region of the body of the seated person.

  • Patent number: 4712835
Abstract: A chair, especially for children and teenagers, comprising a seat, a plurality of substantially horizontal legs provided with casters, a supporting frame and a backrest attached to the frame. The supporting frame is disposed close to the floor at a distance determined by the heights of the horizontal legs and the casters. A horizontal support arm is adjustably mounted on the supporting frame for support of the seat through a horizontal shaft pivotably mounted on the support arm and a tiltable seat support member, the seat support member being rotatable about the shaft through a predetermined swivel angle. A spring mechanism is disposed substantially horizontally along a tension axis, and has one end attached to a radial arm secured to the horizontal shaft and the other end to the support arm. The spring mechanism suppresses the tilting of the seat support member when the swivel angle is decreased and stimulates the tilting of the seat support member when the swivel angle is increased.

  • Patent number: 4693514
Abstract: It is possible to lock the inclination of the back of a seat by the locking device by means of a strip friction connection. The locking device is arranged as a modular unit with an axial motion by means of friction connection disk (13a) in bearings (10a) of the seating. A self-locking eccentric (17) bearing by its pivoting axis (16) on the tension rod (14) and with an extremely small rise of its eccentric curve is frontally engaged with the assembly of friction connection disks (13). Thus, part of the handling resistance of the eccentric is considerably reduced due to the small rise of its eccentric curve and on the other hand, due to a shortening, characteristic of the system, of the pivoting travel of the eccentric (17), said travel being still sufficiently short.
