  • Publication number: 20040144354
Abstract: A lubrication system for an internal combustion engine includes a variable displacement oil pump supported on the engine block and connected to draw oil from the oil pan and to supply pressurized oil to various engine components. The pump defines variable displacement pumping chambers for carrying oil from an inlet to a pressurized outlet. An exemplary embodiment includes a vane pump with a feedback displacement control using pressure from the lubrication system to actuate a slide ring in the pump to control the pump output. Numerous features of the pump are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4798306
Abstract: Both puff losses and fuel fill vapor losses are recovered by a venting arrangement that includes a vapor storage canister connected fitting opening through the upper end of a filler pipe valve, a valve downstream from the fitting, and a seal upstream from the fitting. A cap extension holds the valve closed, and also wipingly engages the seal. When the cap is removed, the valve is opened, but the seal stays engaged until the cap is fully removed and the extension fully withdrawn, so that puff loss vapors are directed out through the fitting to the storage canister. When the fuel nozzle is inserted, it wipingly engages the same seal, so that fuel fill vapors are similarly recovered.

  • Patent number: 4774913
Abstract: A variable valve lift and timing valve train mechanism includes a rocker arm having one end thereof operatively engaging a valve and its opposite end being engaged by a valve actuator, the upper surface of the rocker arm intermediate its ends having a predetermined cam surface profile which is adapted to cooperate with a working surface of an angular movable reaction member used to provide a fulcrum to thereby effect pivotal movement of the rocker arm in a valve opening direction. The point of line contact between the cam surface of the rocker arm against the working surface of the upper reaction member and the geometry of the upper surface of the rocker arm cooperate to control the amount of valve lift and its timing. The angular position of the reaction member used to control valve lift being controlled by a pivotable eccentric engaging an axially movable slide pin device interposed between the pivotable eccentric and the reaction member.
