Abstract: A mobile device for gaming is loaded with software that communicates with proximity beacons in a gaming environment. When within a predetermined, legal distance to the proximity beacons, the mobile device provides gaming play for monetary wagers and additional venue specific advertising and information. When a user is beyond the predetermined communication distance of a proximity beacon, the device's cellular communications takes over and provides play-for-fun (non-monetary) gaming as well as other information from a remote server.
