  • Patent number: 6848727
Abstract: A power door latch assembly consists of a ratchet (50) for engaging a door striker, a pawl (52), a rotary actuator (54) for rotating the ratchet (50) towards the closed position and for disengaging the pawl (52) and a drive actuator (96) for driving the rotary actuator (54). The drive actuator (96) includes a prime mover (98) an output member (104) in engagement with the rotary actuator (54), and releasable coupling (102) coupled between the prime mover (98) and the output member (104) for selectively transferring torque between the prime mover (98) and the rotary actuator (54). A drive controller (108) is coupled to the releasable coupling (102) and is configured for disengaging the prime mover (98) from the rotary actuator (54) when the ratchet (50) is disposed in either the open or closed positions.

  • Patent number: 6764113
Abstract: A latch assembly has a ratchet that pivots between open and closed conditions selectively cinching a striker. A pawl engages the ratchet. A pawl lever engages the pawl for releasing rotation thereof. An inside release assembly has an inside release lever connected to an inside clutch lever and an override lever. The inside clutch lever selectively engages the pawl lever. Manipulation of the inside release lever selectively releases the pawl lever. An outside clutch lever selectively engages the pawl lever. Manipulation of the outside release lever releases the pawl lever when the outside clutch lever engages the pawl lever. A first motor operably engages a first shaft having a lock cam. A second motor operably engages a second rotatably mounted shaft having a child lock cam. The lock cam is rotatable to engage the inside and outside clutch levers and the override lever.

  • Publication number: 20030094818
Abstract: A vehicle door latch (10) has a housing (2) having a mouth (4) for receiving a striker. A ratchet (56) is pivotally mounted to the housing for rotation between latched and unlatched conditions. The ratchet (56) cooperates with the mouth (4) to selectively retain a striker. A pawl (62) is mounted to the housing (2) for releasably engaging the ratchet (56). The pawl (62) is moveable relative to the ratchet (56) between a rest position engaging the ratchet to block movement of the ratchet toward the unlatched condition and a released position disengaging the ratchet to allow movement of the ratchet toward the unlatched condition. A release lever (22) is mounted to the housing and operably connected to the pawl (62) by a clutch lever (94) extending therebetween.

  • Patent number: 6554328
Abstract: A power-operated vehicle door locking assembly including separate inner and outer door locking mechanisms connected with a housing assembly and an electric motorized system operable to selectively move (1) the inner door locking mechanism between an inoperative and an inner door locking position in response to inner manual electric motor energizing actuations and (2) the outer door locking mechanism between an inoperative and an outer door locking positions in response to outer manual electric motor energizing actuations. The arrangement is such that an outer manual electric motor energizing actuation without a corresponding inner manual electric motor energizing actuation causes a door latching assembly when in a door latching position to be incapable of being moved into a door unlatching position by an outer door latch releasing mechanism while at the same time the door latching assembly is capable of being moved into the door unlatching position thereof by an inner door latch releasing mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6511107
Abstract: A vehicle door latch assembly is moveable between an unlocked condition, a locked condition and a double locked condition. The door latch assembly has a support housing with a cover having a projecting block. A cam is rotatably mounted to the cover and includes an integral notch defining a pair of stops for selective engagement with the block. A rocker is movably mounted to the cover for selectively engaging at least one of the stops of the notch within the cam. A first controller rotates the cam into selective engagement with the block and the rocker for defining the unlocked condition and the locked condition, respectively, of the door lock. A second controller rotates the rocker to release the rocker from one of the stops of the notch to allow further rotation of the cam from the locked condition to the double locked condition.

  • Patent number: 6237737
Abstract: The present application discloses a power actuator that has a motor having a rotatable motor output member and a clutch assembly. A stamped, cup-shape ferromagnetic coil casing has a generally radially extending base wall and an annular side wall extending generally axially from the base wall. An annular ferromagnetic flux intensifying washer is positioned adjacent to the base wall of the coil casing. An annular coil of electroconductive material is disposed within the casing with the side wall extending in surrounding relation with respect to the coil such that the field generated by the coil flows generally radially through the base wall and generally axially through said side wall. A ferromagnetic armature is in sliding relation with the annular coil and movable between an engaged position and a disengaged position.

  • Patent number: 5899508
Abstract: A door latch assembly has a housing defining a mouth. A detent fork is pivotally mounted within the housing to cooperate with the mouth to pivot between an open and closed condition for receiving, engaging and cinching a keeper of a striker. The detent fork is biased in the open condition. A pivotally mounted pawl is biased into engagement with the detent fork for retaining the detent fork in the closed condition. A pivotally mounted inside release lever is movable between a stand-by position and a release position and biased to the stand-by position. A pivotally mounted outside release lever is movable between a stand-by position and a release position, and biased to the stand-by position. A pivotally mounted locking cam operably engages the pawl for positioning the pawl to selectively engage the release levers.

  • Patent number: 5584516
Abstract: A vehicle door is provided including a latching mechanism carried by the door constructed and arranged to move between an unlatched relation with a door opening catch and a latched relation with the door opening catch. The latching mechanism includes a movable releasing component constructed and arranged to be in a latching position within the door structure when the latching mechanism is in latched relation with the door opening catch and to be moved from the latching position in a generally downward direction into a releasing position to move the latching mechanism into unlatched relation with the door opening catch. A motion-transmitting assembly is disposed within a space defined by the door to transmit a manual motion of an external door handle to downward motion of the movable releasing component.

  • Patent number: 5531489
Abstract: A vehicle door latch assembly comprises a latching mechanism carried by a vehicle door structure, a manually operable releasing assembly mounted on the door frame, a flexible cable, and a cable controlling assembly. The latching mechanism includes a movable releasing component and a latch, and is movable between an unlatched and latched relation with the door opening catch. The manually operable releasing assembly is mounted for resiliently biased movement into an inoperative position, the releasing assembly having a manually engageable component disposed outwardly of the interior panel. The manually engageable component can be manually engaged and moved to move the releasing assembly against the resilient bias thereof from the inoperative position thereof into an operative position so that upon manual release of the manually engageable component the resilient bias will return the releasing assembly into the inoperative position thereof.
