  • Patent number: 10009598
Abstract: A system, method, and computer-readable medium are disclosed for dynamically controlling a multi-modal camera system to take advantage of the benefits of sensing gestures with a 2D camera, while overcoming the challenges associated with 2D cameras for performing gesture detection. In certain embodiments, the multi-modal camera system includes an RGB camera and a depth camera, thus providing both a 2D and a 3D capture mode.

  • Patent number: 9992593
Abstract: A system, method, and computer-readable medium for an audio processing system which compensates for environment parameters to enhance audio inputs and outputs of an information handling system. More specifically, in certain embodiments, the audio processing system accounts for environmental characteristics including some or all of shape, size, materials, occupant, quantity, location and occlusions.

  • Patent number: 9983717
Abstract: Inputs to a projected or other type of displayed user interface are verified with a verification device that enhances input detection accuracy. For example, inputs at a projected keyboard are detected by an infrared curtain projected over the keyboard and breached by an end user finger as it strikes a key. The inputs are verified with a capacitive sensor device disposed below the keyboard that confirms a user touch. Alternatively, proximity sensing by the capacitive sensor measures distance and velocity associated with a finger to verify the inputs detected by breaching of the infrared curtain are intended inputs. Other verification devices may include an accelerometer that detects accelerations associated with inputs and three dimensional cameras that capture finger positions. Verification devices may be selectively enabled based upon power and accuracy constraints.

  • Patent number: 9921644
Abstract: A non-linear user interface display presented at a desktop conforms to dimensions of a user detected by a depth camera, such as by presenting the user interface along an arc having a radius determined from a reach of the user detected by the depth camera. Windows presented in the arc vary in size based upon their position relative to a user focus, such as by detecting a user gaze direction or by comparing position to a central display mat. User gestures control presentation of visual images in the arc, such rotating visual image windows in a circular manner around the arc radius and to different orientations in the arc relative to the user.

  • Patent number: 9791979
Abstract: A single camera detects user interactions with separate infrared light sources, such as structured light for three dimensional detection and an infrared curtain surface touch interactions. A touch input module monitors user interactions with a desktop surface, such as at a projected or display mat user interface presentation, and selectively illuminates the separate infrared light sources to support camera detection based upon the user interactions. For example, separate infrared light sources illumination in an interleaved manned at variable rates based upon analysis of visible light or structured light images captured by the camera.

  • Patent number: 9753591
Abstract: Identifying characteristics integrated in a totem and detected by a capacitive display mat are applied to perform functions in response to end user inputs. Identifying characteristics include capacitive feet integrated in a totem bottom surface with identifying features including varying capacitive values for the feet, varying pad sizes and shapes, varying pad patterns and varying capacitive oscillation frequencies. In one embodiment, the surface area of the totem in contact with the capacitive mat varies depending upon the pressure placed on the totem to alter the shape of a compressible material disposed at the bottom surface.

  • Publication number: 20150268739
Abstract: Projected input and output devices adapt o a desktop environment by sensing objects at the desktop environment and altering projected light in response to the sensed objects. For instance, projection of input and output devices is altered to limit illumination against and end user's hands or other objects disposed at a projection surface. End user hand positions and motions are detected to provide gesture support for adapting a projection work space, and configurations of projected devices are stored so that an end user can rapidly recreate a projected desktop. A projector scan adjusts to limit traces across inactive portions of the display surface and to increase traces at predetermined areas, such as video windows.

  • Publication number: 20040139435
Abstract: Appointments and tasks in a software environment such as a planner or appointment book are directly associated one with the other. Embodiments of the present invention include portable computer devices such as hand-held calculators, personal digital assistants (PDA) or personal learning tools (PLT) and applications software for these devices and for personal computers. Tasks in a planner can be viewed separately or shown embedded with the task they are associated with.

  • Publication number: 20040128362
Abstract: File attachments to appointments or tasks are provided in a software environment such as a planner or appointment book. The attachment does not necessarily include a copy of the attached file in the appointment or task. The attachments can be implemented as links or pointers to existing documents or files in the user's file system. The present invention is particularly advantageous for portable electronic devices where the conservation of memory to store the attachments is limited.
