  • Patent number: 5946909
Abstract: A series of floating turbine rotors each have a tubular hub with outwardly projecting blades, and the rotors are connected in general axial alignment by a flexible driven shaft. The shaft includes tubular floating connector shafts and flexible couplings, and each rotor is connected to drive the shaft through a one-way ratchet clutch. One or more lines of the connected floating rotors are anchored within moving water of a river or in the waves flowing into a seashore, and the rotors drive each flexible shaft which, in turn, drives an electric generator through a fly-wheel and a power converter or drives an air compressor for producing compressed air which is stored in underground tanks and later used to drive an electric generator through an air turbine.

  • Patent number: 5407418
Abstract: A non-stretchable flexible band is wrapped around the arch of a foot and has end portions connected by an adjustable fastener. The bottom portion of the band is attached to a compressor hinge and carries a rigid arcuate pad on which is releasably mounted a replaceable resilient pad. The compressor hinge is connected to a flexible cable and a surrounding sheath which are removably coupled to a power drive unit. The power drive unit reciprocates the cable within the sheath and pivots the compressor hinge between a collapsed position and an extended position where the pads are compressed against a localized region on the bottom of the foot. The drive unit includes an electric motor which is momentarily energized and controlled by a timer module to reciprocate a spring bias rack connected to reciprocate the flexible cable.

  • Patent number: 4768140
Abstract: A high pressure sodium lamp has a horizontal light source and is supported by a socket and frame which includes a horizontal reflecting plate member positioned below the lamp. A pair of open grid-type reflector panels are supported by the plate member on opposite sides of the lamp and at inclined angles to reflect light rays downwardly while preventing direct viewing of the light source through the panels. The frame is supported below the ceiling of a room, and in one embodiment, a rectangular open bottom and open top translucent shade surrounds the lamp and reflector panels. All light rays emanating from the light source are reflected within the room to produce 100% indirect lighting, and air flows upwardly through the panels and around the lamp to provide for cooling and self-cleaning of the lamp.

  • Patent number: 4433481
Abstract: A flexible carrier sheet has an adhesive releasing outer surface and a heat-sealable inner surface, and one or more retaining pads are die-cut from a sheet or strip of breathable foam material attached to the outer surface by pressure-sensitive adhesive. Each retaining pad covers a hole cut within the carrier sheet and supports an electrical contact assembly which projects through the hole to confine an electrical conducting gel. A flexible bottom cover sheet has an air-impervious outer surface and a heat-sealable inner surface, and the edge or border portions of the carrier sheet and bottom cover sheet are heat-sealed together to form an air-tight chamber for the gel. • Patent number: 4290096
Abstract: A rectangular reflector sheet of relatively stiff aluminum is curved into the general shape of an elongated parabola and is inserted into a cylindrical transparent glass tube so that the edge portions of the sheet press outwardly against the tube. A set of end closure caps or members are clamped against the ends of the tube by a set of tie bolts which extend axially between the reflector sheet and the inner surface of the tube or outboard of the tube. Each of the end closure members is provided with an annular groove which confines a resilient gasket material to form a fluid-tight seal between the tube and the closure member. One of the end closure members has an eccentrically located hollow hub portion which supports a socket for receiving the socket end of an elongated lamp element extending along the offset focal axis of the curved reflector sheet.

  • Patent number: 4114263
Abstract: A sheet of resilient foam material is releasably attached by adhesive to an air impervious carrier sheet and is die cut to form on the carrier sheet an annular pad surrounding a center section. The center section and its corresponding adhesive are removed to define a center opening which receives a molded flexible hub member. The hub member has a top wall which connects with an annular U-shaped channel portion forming an annular hinge and cooperating to define a chamber closed by the carrier sheet. An electrical contact assembly extends from the chamber through the top wall portion of the hub member, and a resilient foam pad or patch containing an electrically conductive gel is confined and sealed within the chamber. The hub member also includes a flexible flange portion which projects outwardly from the U-shaped channel or hinge portion and is permanently bonded or attached to the top surface of the annular pad of resilient foam material.

  • Patent number: 3981304
Abstract: An elongated tubular container or bag of plastics film material is heat sealed to form a hermetically sealed container portion for enclosing a predetermined volume of fluid. An elongated handle member of relatively rigid plastics material, extends longitudinaly within the container portion and has one or more pointed tip portions. An end portion of the sealed bag is folded back against the container portion to form a tab portion, and the folded end portion of the bag and the pointed tip portion of the handle member are inserted within a slot formed within a resilient sponge-like swab or applicator. When the projecting tab portion is pulled, the handle member pierces one or more holes within the container portion of the bag so that the fluid may be dispensed into the center portion of the applicator in response to pressure applied to the bag.
