  • Patent number: 6426211
Abstract: A purified xylanase derived from B. Pumilus PRL B12 is disclosed. This xylanase is efficient for use in the biobleaching of wood pulp, permitting a strong reduction in the quantity of chlorine used and AOX compounds produced in classical and ECF wood pulp bleaching sequences as well as the quantity of ozone used in TCF sequences. The gene coding for the xylanase was isolated and purified and used to construct an expression vector therefor. A recombinant host strain of B. licheniformis is also disclosed which is efficient for expressing heterologous enzymes, including the xylanase when transformed by the expression vector.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 5, 1998
Date of Patent: July 30, 2002
    Assignee: Genencor International Inc.
Inventors: Eric de Buyl, Andrée Lahaye, Pierre Ledoux, Antoine Amory, René Detroz, Christophe Andre, Roman Vetter

  • Patent number: 5453372
Abstract: Enzymes stabilized against the destabilizing effect of ionic surfactants and a method of producing such stabilized enzymes in which DNA sequences which code for the enzymes are modified by directed mutation in defined positions which correlate with defined surface regions of the enzyme, in such a way that the codon in which the mutation is located now codes for an amino acid differing from the original amino acid.

  • Patent number: 5427936
Abstract: The invention relates to alkaline bacillus lipases, DNA sequences, which code for these lipases, a method for isolating and producing these lipases, as well as to bacillus strains, which have the capability to form these lipases. The alkaline lipases are suitable for use in compositions for cleaning, washing and bleaching purposes.

  • Patent number: 5352603
Abstract: Novel, optimized highly alkaline proteases which are suitable for use in detergent formulations are prepared by employing microorganisms transformed by mutated DNA sequences. The mutated sequences are obtained starting from DNA sequences which code for highly alkaline protease usually produced by Bacillus species by altering these DNA sequences in defined positions by directed mutagenesis (point mutation) in such a way that the codon in which the point mutation is located now codes for an amino acid which is more strongly basic than the original amino acid. The result is highly alkaline proteases in which original amino acids have been replaced by more strongly basic amino acids, preferably by the amino acids lysine or arginine. Synthetic oligonucleotides, DNA sequences, vectors and transformed microorganisms which are used for generating and obtaining the optimized highly alkaline protease are also described.
