  • Publication number: 20250150805
Abstract: A telecommunications network provides selective roaming for user equipment (UE) devices registered to the network, allowing some UE devices to operate on a roaming network in some geographic regions and disallowing other UE devices to access roaming networks. The telecommunications network maintains mappings between UE devices and roaming permissions for each UE device. When a target UE device requests to attach to a roaming network, the roaming network passes the request, with an identifier of a particular geographic region in which the request was received, to the telecommunications network to query the mappings. If the mappings indicate the target UE device is authorized to access the roaming network in the particular geographic region, the telecommunications network allows the target UE device to attach to the roaming network.

  • Publication number: 20250106697
Abstract: Various embodiments comprise a Fifth Generation (5G) visited wireless communication network to interwork with a Long Term Evolution (LTE) home network. In some examples, the 5G visited wireless communication network comprises an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) and an Interworking Function (IWF). The AMF receives a service request from a 5G capable visiting user device. The AMF generates Fifth Generation Core (5GC) authentication signaling to authenticate the visiting user device. Prior to delivering the 5GC authentication signaling to the home network, the IWF translates the 5GC authentication signaling into Evolved Packet Core (EPC) authentication signaling and transfers the EPC authentication signaling to the home network. The IWF receives an EPC authentication response from the home network and translates the EPC authentication response into a 5GC authentication response.

  • Publication number: 20240430772
Abstract: A system facilitates handover of mobile devices from one telecommunications network to another. The system receives a communication indicating a request by a user equipment (UE) to transfer from (i) a first communication session within a first telecommunications network, in which the UE is assigned a first IP address, to (ii) a second communication session within a second telecommunications network, in which the first IP address is invalid. The system transfers a context of the UE from the first telecommunications network to the second telecommunications network that does not include the first IP address. The context causes the second telecommunications network to notify the UE that the first communication session is inactive and to facilitate assignment of a second IP address to the UE in the second communication session. The system then releases the first IP address.

  • Patent number: 12114223
Abstract: To facilitate a handover of mobile devices from 5th Generation New Radio (5G) networks to 4th Generation (4G) networks, an accessibility and mobility management function (AMF) of the 5G network core inactivates a data session in which the mobile device is assigned an Internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) address when the mobile device is to be assigned an IP version 4 (IPv4) address in the 4G network. The AMF generates a modified context of the mobile device that omits the IPv6 address of the device. The inactivation of the IPv6 session causes the mobile device to initiate a new data session with the 4G core network, in which the device will be assigned an IPv4 address for use on the 4G network. The modified context is used by the 4G network to configure communications for the mobile device without interrupting network service to the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20240314852
Abstract: Aspects provided herein provide methods, systems, and a non-transitory computer storage media storing computer-useable instructions for packet data network device handling in a resource constrained network. A resource constrained network may be an extra-terrestrial network with limited bandwidth. This limited bandwidth may cause the typical process of establishing a default data bearer before establishing an IMS bearer unfeasible, as too much bandwidth may be used by the default data bearer. Aspects discussed below provide a mechanism to establish an IMS bearer without establishing a default data bearer. The method begins with determining a public land mobile network (PLMN) associated with a base station which a UE is attempting to connect to. Then, based on a determination that the PLMN associated with the base station does not allow connection with a PDN data bearer, a PDN connectivity request is communicated with an IMS bearer and without a data bearer.

Abstract: A telecommunications network provides selective roaming for user equipment (UE) devices registered to the network, allowing some UE devices to operate on a roaming network in some geographic regions and disallowing other UE devices to access roaming networks. While a target UE device is operating on a roaming network, the telecommunications network monitors changes in location of the target device. If the target UE device is detected to have moved into an overlapping coverage area, covered by both the telecommunications network and the roaming network, the telecommunications network generates a command to cancel the subscription of the target UE device to the roaming network.

  • Patent number: 11877202
Abstract: To facilitate a handover of mobile devices from 4th Generation (4G) networks to 5th Generation (5G) networks, a mobility management entity (MME) of the 4G network core inactivates a data session in which the mobile device is assigned an Internet protocol version 4 (IPv4) address. The MME generates a modified context of the mobile device that omits the IPv4 address of the device. The inactivation of the IPv4 session causes the mobile device to initiate a new data session with the 5G core network, in which the device will be assigned a new IPv6 address for use on a data network. The modified context is used by the 5G network to configure communications for the mobile device without interrupting network service to the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20230269650
Abstract: To facilitate a handover of mobile devices from 4th Generation (4G) networks to 6th Generation (5G) networks, a mobility management entity (MME) of the 4G network core inactivates a data session in which the mobile device is assigned an Internet protocol version 4 (IPv4) address. The MME generates a modified context of the mobile device that omits the IPv4 address of the device. The inactivation of the IPv4 session causes the mobile device to initiate a new data session with the 6G core network, in which the device will be assigned a new IPv6 address for use on a data network. The modified context is used by the 6G network to configure communications for the mobile device without interrupting network service to the mobile device.
