  • Patent number: 9639756
Abstract: A pair of images is obtained having pixel intensities substantially proportional to wave height for a majority of pixels. The images are aligned, orthorectified, and adjusted for relative reflectance in their respective spectral bands. The images are Fourier transformed, and then one image is propagated to the time of the other image. A deglinted image is calculated by taking the difference in wavenumber space, then inverse Fourier transforming. Alternatively, an equivalent formula can be obtained using convolutions. The propagation uses a gravity wave propagation function, which, in general, can be a function of depth, surface current, and wave direction which can be obtained from external data, assumed constant, or calculated from wave images depending on the particular circumstances.

  • Patent number: 9268008
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for detection and tracking of one or more objects in land clutter, including strong clutter and low observable (LO) objects such as a humans, animals, vehicles, and small, low-flying aircraft using a non-coherent radar or the amplitude output of a coherent radar. The preferred embodiment of the method and apparatus uses an X-band, maritime, non-coherent radar and the Doppler spectra computed from the high-frequency amplitude modulations produced by the object interacting with the land-based clutter to determine the presence, velocity, and track of the object.

  • Patent number: 8903134
Abstract: Systems and methods for acquiring accurate maps of near-shore depth and surface currents are disclosed. An imaging platform is provided which is able to obtain a time series of overhead images of an area of a body of water having pixel intensity correlated with wave height. The platform may be on a tower, or may be airborne, space-borne, or ship-borne. The imaging modality may be optical, radar, or LIDAR. Image processing corrects the images, as and if needed, such they are mapped onto a grid of fixed coordinates, and the pixel intensities have a near linear relationship to wave height. A two-dimensional Fourier transform of each image is obtained, then the extremum of an objective function is found, wherein the objective function is a function of the depth and surface current (velocity) vector at each pixel location, and the extremum is sharply peaked at a particular set of depth and a particular set of surface current vector values. A pixel-by-pixel map of depths and or currents can be produced.
