    Abstract: Thumbnail image substitution is described. In embodiments, a navigation input is received that is effective to move from a first view of a media content page to a second view of the media content page. The second view includes a region of the media content page that is not included in the first view of the media content page. A thumbnail image is displayed in the region of the media content page that is not included in the first view and that will display the media content. The thumbnail image is replaced to display the media content in the region of the media content page that corresponds to the second view of the media content page.
