Patent number: 6932240Abstract: A dispensing closure is provided for attachment to the discharge port of a standard circular-headed tube. The closure comprises a skirt with a circular cross-sectional shape at its base that merges gradually to an oval-shaped face at its top. When the closure is attached to a standard circular-headed tube, with the long axis of the oval face oriented substantially parallel to the straight crimped edge of the filled tube, the combination of closure and tube appears to the ordinary observer to have a continuously oval cross-sectional shape throughout the length of the combination. The dispensing closure can be manufactured using typical injection-molding techniques, and may be adapted for use with dispensing mechanisms and attachment means known in the personal care products industry.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2003Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: CCL Container CorporationInventors: Ron E. Harriman, Edward F. Csaszar

Patent number: 5590815Abstract: A ventless miniature pump sprayer comprises a reciprocable plunger head extending outwardly of an open end of a tubular member divided into an upper sleeve section and a lower container section for a liquid to be sprayed. A dip tube integral with the member extends into the container, and a pump cylinder and hollow inlet tube integral with tie member extend into the sleeve section. An integral shipper seal is molded in the inlet tube and a coaxial rod within a hollow piston on the plunger cooperates with the inlet tube for controlling the inlet and, during initial actuation of the plunger, pierces the shipper seal and has a groove or a rib thereon which establishes an air passage through which unwanted air from the pump chamber is ejected into the container to aid in pump priming.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 1995Date of Patent: January 7, 1997Assignee: Monturas S.A.Inventors: Pedro P. Montaner, Manuel R. Monegal, Ron E. Harriman, P. Lasserre

Patent number: 5507418Abstract: An interference fit is effected for a threaded closure cap used in mounting a trigger sprayer onto the threaded neck of a container by the provision of an oversized elastomeric gasket seal presenting at least one radially extending protrusion bent by the cap during the cap threading operation to lie between the cap and the container neck, the protrusion having a predetermined thickness to form the interference fit for increasing resistance to cap backoff.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1995Date of Patent: April 16, 1996Assignee: Calmar Inc.Inventors: Douglas B. Dobbs, Ron E. Harriman

Patent number: 5445299Abstract: A tamper evident, removable and anti-rotative lock for a rotatable plunger with a manually operable dispensing pump in which the plunger has a hollow stem reciprocable through an annular collar of the pump during pumping operation, the lock comprising an arcuate strip partially surrounding the stem and located between the stem and the collar when the lock is installed on the pump, the strip having at least one tooth, protuberance or rib adapted to engage the collar when the lock is installed for preventing rotation between the strip and the collar, and axially extending mating rib and groove elements on the strip and on the stem when the lock is installed on the pump for transmitting the rotative immobility to the plunger from the strip.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1994Date of Patent: August 29, 1995Assignee: Calmar Inc.Inventor: Ron E. Patent number: 5360127Abstract: A non-removable closure assembly for connecting a manually actuated liquid dispenser to a container includes a closure cap having internal threads for mating engagement with similar threads on the outside of the container neck finish, both the cap and the neck finish having mutually engageable ratchet teeth locking the closure onto the container. The teeth inside the cap each have a trailing face extending radially at an upper end thereof and lying in a plane sloping toward the thread loosening direction of the cap at an angle greater than or equal to 1.degree. relative to the central axis of the cap for creating a camming action between the closure teeth and the neck finish teeth tending to cam the closure down on the container in response to closure rotation in the loosening direction.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1994Date of Patent: November 1, 1994Assignee: Calmar Inc.Inventors: Jacques J. Barriac, Ron E. Harriman
