Abstract: A protection device for floppy diskettes is described. In some embodiments, the protection device may be installed on already existing floppy diskettes to protect them from environmental contamination when not in use or incorporated during manufacturing. Rotatable shutter assemblies are disposed on each side of the diskette and may be deployed to alternately cover and uncover the openings in the diskette jacket. In one embodiment, the shutter assemblies comprise a multi-layered structure having rotatable shutters and spacer members disposed between a bottom layer and a common top layer and located so that the assembly may be folded over an edge of a floppy diskette, thereby placing a shutter on each side of the diskette. Except where the device is folded over the edge of the floppy diskette, none of the device extends beyond the edges of the floppy diskette including the shutters, both in their positions covering such openings and in their positions uncovering such openings.
