    Abstract: The use of vanadium-containing particles, in particular vanadium pentoxide particles and/or vanadyl acetylacetonate particles, as a biocide is herewith suggested. Moreover, a biocidal composition comprising such vanadium-containing particles, a method for preventing biofouling of a substrate and a method of imparting biocidal properties to the surface of a substrate are suggested.
