  • Patent number: 5862230
Abstract: A method to improve the enjoyment of a motion picture presentation in a given auditorium located in a multiplex theater complex by controlling the times of sound leakage events from adjacent auditoriums such that the events occur when the sound level from the film in said auditorium is sufficient to completely, or partially, mask the sound leakage events. This is accomplished by providing a means so theater operators can readily schedule the locations of films in auditoriums and their start times based upon the sonic compatibility between the films to be presented on a given day using quantitative ratings incorporating the potential overall intrusiveness of a film as well as its vulnerability to incur perceptible noise due to sound leakage from adjacent auditoriums.

  • Patent number: 5216832
Abstract: An animal pest control device which is spring actuated has elements that move rapidly at the animal which has actuated it, but is so configured as to: (a) not cause physical harm to the animal if contact is made., and (b) have the animal experience different effects or degrees of effect depending upon both the magnitude and direction of the force applied by the animal in actuating the device; thereby causing sufficient unpleasant memories that the animal is trained not to return to the area where the device is located. The spring and air actuated device chases animals from buildings, furniture, boats and other vehicles. Two body-members held together by the tension force created by springs pressing them together until a force from an animal depresses the center area to an extent that a torque is created which causes the extreme ends of the body-members and the springs to move rapidly at the animal, thus scaring the animal.

  • Patent number: 4331214
Abstract: The acoustical radiation from handling empty cans and containers is reduced to sound levels which decrease the risk of hearing damage for exposed personnel by this invention. The invention comprises the temporary use of damping end-caps comprised of viscoelastic material which eliminates metal to metal contact between containers, guides, and cables and which also dissipates vibratory and airborne acoustical energy in the containers, thereby reducing the acoustical radiation. The invention is applicable in particular to canneries and canning operations.

  • Patent number: 4163283
Abstract: Two sensors spaced at a known separation produce signal pulses when activated by the wheels of a taxiing aircraft. The signals are transmitted to a processor in which the wheelbase of the aircraft can readily be calculated. Since specific aircraft types have unique wheelbase dimensions and characteristics, the type of aircraft passing the sensors is determined in a processor. Also, the time, direction, and speed of the aircraft can be determined and logged by the processor.
