  • Patent number: 5171027
Abstract: A ring shaped seal (10) for preventing fluid flow through a gap (32) between a rotating shaft (30) and a cylindrical wall (34) is positioned in a groove (28) in the shaft. The seal has, in cross section, a generally rectangular body (11) that has a slightly lesser width than the width of the groove. The body has a first end wall (12) that includes first pockets (18) and a second end wall (14) that includes second pockets (20). The seal has an outer wall (22) with a contact portion (26) that is in abutting contact with the cylindrical wall. When a higher pressure is applied on one side of the seal, the end wall of the seal on the side away from the higher fluid pressure is pushed against a side wall of the groove. The pockets in the end wall of the seal that is pushed against the groove, are open to the higher pressure and exert a force which counteracts the forces pushing the end wall of the seal against the side of wall of the groove.

  • Patent number: 4291831
Abstract: A security system for use with a coin container and a coin-processing machine having improved tamper-proof features. The system includes key means in a machine housing which engages with lock means associated with the container. Relative rotation of the lock with respect to the key positively locks the container, to protect coins in the container from pilferage. High-strength mounting means join the key stem to the housing so that the key stem is firmly fixed from rotation which would otherwise override the security of the system.

  • Patent number: 4267962
Abstract: A security system for mounting a coin-collecting container in an operating position on a housing provided in a coin-processing machine. The system may incorporate integral locking means which can be positioned at a plurality of locking stations on the machine housing, to thereby adapt the system for a variety of non-processing machines. In one embodiment, the system is adapted to freely receive a coin of maximum size in the opened position and to lock against the discharge of a coin of minimum size in a locked position. Means are also provided to improve security by using high-strength materials at critical shear points, and by using spring-biasing forces to positively lock the system components in a secure position.

  • Patent number: 4053166
Abstract: An annular composite two-piece seal is described for sealing engagement with a reciprocating member. The composite seal includes a soft, flexible, annular sealing ring having an annular sealing lip with a chamfered portion facing the high pressure side of the seal and inclined toward the reciprocating member, and having an axially and circumferentially extending wall for sealing engagement with an axially directed circumferential wall of a groove in a stationary member receiving the seal. A second annular sealing ring of harder and lower friction material is formed with a circumferentially extending sealing lip for engaging the reciprocating member. Both of these sealing lips seal with the reciprocating member at a low pressure loading of the seal. The sealing lip on the second ring is deflected into tighter sealing engagement with the reciprocating member with increased pressure on the first ring.
