  • Publication number: 20240250576
Abstract: An electric machine includes a stator, a rotor configured to rotate about an axis, and a housing surrounding the rotor and the stator. The housing includes an end cap at an axial end of the electric machine. The housing encloses an end space between the rotor and the end cap. The electric machine also includes a nozzle disposed within the end space and configured to discharge a cooling fluid into the end space in a direction tangential to the rotation of the rotor. The cooling fluid may include liquid, such as oil. The electric machine may be an induction machine or a synchronous machine. The nozzle may include an inlet tube that extends through the end cap. The electric machine may include two end spaces on opposite ends of the rotor, with one or more nozzles located in each of the two end spaces.

  • Patent number: 9268887
Abstract: A system and method for determining fluid flow of compressible and non-compressible liquids includes an input receiving an object model defined as a plurality of cells having nodes, a processor and memory. The processor is configured for: discretizing a partial differential equation (PDE) corresponding to the received model; for each node P: (i) locating all neighboring cells that share the node P; establish a finite difference stencil at each cell center, and identify stencil intersection points with cell boundary edges; calculate an approximate solution of the PDE at the intersection points; (ii) approximating the PDE at the cell center of the neighboring cells using the stencil and discretized PDE; and (iii) updating a solution of the PDE at the node P by using the solution of approximated discretized PDE at all the neighboring cell centers; and iteratively updating the solution for all nodes P from an initial guess until a convergence criterion is satisfied.

  • Publication number: 20150347651
Abstract: A system includes a processor with stored instructions for generating a Cartesian mesh model of a bounded or unbounded object domain. The model includes active, inactive and boundary nodes which encompass the domain. The processor effects of discretizing a partial differential equation based on a stencil associated with each active node in the mesh by (i) selecting an active node, (ii) identifying the stencil associated with the selected node, (iii) mapping the stencil from the physical domain to a generic uniform computational stencil, (iv) applying finite difference formulas on the computational stencil to approximate the partial differential equation by a finite difference equation, (v) solving the finite difference equation to obtain an approximate value for the solution, and thereafter (vi) checking the iteration process for convergence.

  • Publication number: 20140324399
Abstract: A system and method for determining fluid flow of compressible and non-compressible liquids is described. The system may include input means for receiving a model of an object defined as a plurality of cells having a plurality of nodes P, and a processor coupled to a memory. The processor may be configured for: discretizing a partial differential equation (PDE) corresponding to the received model; for each node P: (i) locating all neighbouring cells that share the node P; (ii) grouping all of the neighbouring cells to form one larger cell having a common vertex at node P; (iii) approximating the PDE at the common vertex at node P using the discretized PDE; and iteratively updating the solution for all the nodes P from an initial guess until a convergence criterion is satisfied.
