Patent number: 5987758Abstract: A toolless blade clamp is disclosed for mounting a saw blade to the drive shaft of a reciprocating saw, such as a jigsaw. The clamp has a housing formed with a channel into which the blade may be inserted and an inclined track along which a roller is movable. The roller is biased by a spring into engagement with the blade during operation of the reciprocating saw. A release device, also attached to the spring, is pivotally mounted to the housing and may be rotated against the spring load from a locked position adjacent the housing to an unlocked position away from the housing. A pair of elongated links are pivotally connected to the release device and pivotally support the roller therebetween. The links act to translate rotation of the release device to movement of the roller, such that rotation of the release device to the unlocked position pulls the roller away from the blade allowing the blade to be removed from the channel.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1997Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Ryobi North America, Inc.Inventors: Ronald C. Patent number: 5632578Abstract: A router includes a motor housing having first and second clam shell halves forming an air inlet and a stator forming an air outlet, the housing having a central axis therethrough. An electric motor having a rotary armature, an armature shaft and a stationary member is fixed with respect to the housing. An axial fan is fixed to the armature shaft and positioned between the rotary armature and the stator for drawing air across the armature and stationary member. The fan has a plurality of radially extending fan blades tilted with respect to the central axis for forcing air in a substantially helical path. The stator includes a plurality of radially extending stator blades oppositely tilted with respect to the fan blades and the central axis for receiving air moving in a helical path from the fan blades. The stator blades are configured to cause air to swirl in a predictable manner when leaving the housing.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1996Date of Patent: May 27, 1997Assignee: Ryobi North AmericaInventors: Ronald C. Patent number: 5620188Abstract: A router collet for removably attaching a rotary cutting tool to a router drive shaft is provided having a body, a split collet, a nut and a retainer for retaining the collet and nut together to permit free rotation while limiting axial movement therebetween. This construction enables the nut when loosened to initially rotate with the split collet and cutting tool for limited axial distance whereupon further axial movement of the collet is constrained causing the split collet and nut to separate and the split collet to loosen its grip upon the cutting tool shank.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1995Date of Patent: April 15, 1997Assignee: Ryobi North AmericaInventors: Ronald C. McCurry, Wallace E. Anderson

Patent number: 5613813Abstract: The height adjustment ring assembly is provided for adjusting height of a router motor housing relative to a router body, the router being movable between upright and inverted positions. The housing includes external threads formed thereon. The height adjustment ring assembly comprises a support member secured to the router base, the support having a radially extending flange portion. An annular adjustment ring includes an internal thread for cooperation with the external threads. Means for entrapping the flange portion with respect to the adjustment ring is provided, thereby limiting relative axial movement while allowing free relative rotation of the adjustment ring with respect to the support member for adjustment of the router motor housing regardless of router position.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1996Date of Patent: March 25, 1997Assignee: Ryobi North America, Inc.Inventors: Charles D. Winchester, Ronald C. McCurry

Patent number: 5445198Abstract: A sub-base is provided for a router adapted to engage a stationary guide while cutting a workpiece. The sub-base includes a plate and an elongated guide-edge. The guide-edge extends from a linear edge of the plate in a manner as to lie in outboard shielding relationship to the router base. The sub-base further includes means for detachably securing the plate to the base with the guide-edge outboard of the base. The plate is positioned such that a generally planer surface of the plate engages the workpiece and the guide-edge extends to engage the stationary guide. The router bit extends through a central opening in the base and further extends through a central opening in the plate of the sub-base to cut the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1994Date of Patent: August 29, 1995Assignee: Ryobi Motor Products CorporationInventor: Ronald C. Patent number: 5310296Abstract: A plunge router (10) is disclosed which has a base (12), a pair of laterally spaced apart columns (14, 16) and a motor housing assembly (18). The base (12) has a planar work engaging surface (22). Affixed to the base (12) are the laterally spaced columns (14,16) which extend perpendicular to the work engaging surface (22). The motor housing assembly (18) has a housing (24), preferably plastic, which supports a pair of bushings (46,48) which slide upon the columns (14,16) to permit the motor housing assembly (18) to move relative to the base (12). One of the bushings (46) is relatively securely held by the housing (24) while the other bushing (48) is elastically mounted relative to the housing (24) to enable limited movement of the bushing (48) relative to the housing (24). This mounting prevents binding between the bushings (46,48) and the columns (14,16) and accommodates production tolerances and variations and thermal expansions and contractions of the housing (24), the base (12) and columns (14,16).Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1993Date of Patent: May 10, 1994Assignee: Ryobi Motor ProductsInventor: Ronald C.
